aa fellow anti spammer? personally i think that a general spam would have negative feedback and get your IP banned/forum shutdown!!!

Agree. Nice start with the site, Jane! :tu:
Ads/Link Exchanges with the same general topic would be a good start, I'll try to locate some other potential resources here later this afternoon (from Google, etc.), as well.

PS. "Spam" would NOT be a way to go here, and I hope those who mentioned it above were just kidding, as Josh mentions. I get far too much of it every single day, as I'm sure many here do as well. I applaud current efforts to crack down hard on known spammers!
Thanks.

Spam is the best!

YOW, TERRIBLE ADVICE! :o

You'll only succeed in getting kicked off any ISP and webhosting you tried using, get sued under new anti-spam laws, have your company name and reputation disparaged by being associated with spam, and manage to piss off thousands of people in a matter of minutes.

Hope you guys were joking. :?

Asked for advice on how to get traffic and it was just a joke. Sorry if anybody was offended. The only live site I own is the link below and there would be no point to spam that  My current project gets 1000+ plus uniques on a good day just parking at sedo with no site. I need not spam. I can't wait till it launches :)

Why so negative about spamming?

Hate them to death but the unfortunate thing is that spamming is happening for the reason that it IS effective! The big players send out 1 million + emails per hour (often using repugnant means) so low margins really don't matter. A lot of problems mentioned above are also avoided by buffers that "innocently" redirect the traffic. *shrugs*

No I don't spam, but I've also got to be honest with you I'd consider it for the appropriate niche. Yes I'm also losing the personal battle against inbox spam but no, it hasn't driven me completely over the edge yet.

Any product, service or business advertised by spam gets shut down relatively quickly. That's the need for the buffers you mention. The only way to spam is to illegally using services somewhere along the line.

What appropriate niche would you consider it for? Penis enlargement pills? Would you really recommend it to someone trying to start a forum (of all things)? What kind of visitors would show up to his site to post? Would he enjoy having to move the forum to a new server every couple days?

As for its effectiveness, out of miillions of messages sent out a spammer may get zero to three leads to make it worth their while versus the complaints. There's just nothing positive about the UCE industry anymore. My opinion wasn't much different than yours a few years ago, Chris. I was somewhat indifferent and probably opposed goverment regulation of it. I'm over the edge now. There's too much of it now to be good for anyone.

No good point, I don't want to hijack this thread either so I've started another here (http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12469).

As an aside, could jane purchase a mailing list from someone else somewhere in the niche of cars-->honda-->accord and email them about the new forum? I *think* done carefully, yes.

Wow, didnt realise spam would offend people. Sorry, but the fact is that spam does work. Of course it is not and should not be the only source or traffic, but why not explore all options. Does it really matter how you get people there (legally of course) as long as they get there and they are happy with what they find?
I think how you get traffic to a site is practically irrelevant, it is the end result which is important. Will people enjoy or be satisfied with what they find when they get there.

Spam is not a option to get good traffic.

I guess to each his own.

You should find some similar forum sites and ask to do link exchanges with them. Look for other car fan sites, like Corvettes or Ferraris or something. Good luck! :)
