Editorial Reviews

Law & Order has been delighting fans with its realistic portrayal of both the investigative and legal elements of crime since its 1990 launch. There have been spin-offs (L&O: Special Victims Unit, L&O: Criminal Intent) and crossovers (notably with Homicide: Life on the Street), and still audiences can't get enough. By incorporating everyday issues into episode plotlines, Law & Order creator Dick Wolf has maintained a degree of cultural currency that few series have equaled. The show launched the careers of such actors as Benjamin Bratt (Piñero) and Chris Noth (Sex and the City) and has established itself as one of the most consistently creative, provocative dramas on television. This two-DVD set features eight episodes spanning 11 years, personally selected by Wolf from the series' distinguished library, and offering viewers a rare chance to see their favorite show through the eyes of its creator. This is a limited edition set offered exclusively by Barnes and Noble. Barnes & Noble

Law & Order DVD - Barnes & Noble Exclusiveby Anonymous

November 11, 2003: The eight episodes are well-selected and provide a good overview of some of the more dramatic story-lines and also a couple of the celebrity guest stars who have appeared on Law & Order. Those who prefer SVU and Criminal Intent must look elsewhere, because the DVD disc only includes episodes from the original Law & Order show. Jill Hennesy fans will have to wait, because none of her episodes as assistant D.A. are included on the disc. Unfortunately, the last two episodes on Disc One do not play through. Because I had seen these episodes when originally aired, I was able to follow the plot. Other viewers may not be able to. The problem is apparently some type of manufacturing error with the DVD. I have tried replacement discs, but the same problem always occurs beginning with the third episode, 'Mad Dog.' I have found that skipping the first two chapters of each of the episodes sometimes allows the disc to play straight through the rest of the show with no interruptions. The whole issue of defective DVDs is frustrating, as it is generally difficult to return opened DVDs to the store.
