SI student slapped with hate crime charge after trying to rip off religious headscarf

A Staten Island schoolkid has been charged with felony assault as a hate crime after he tried to rip the religious headscarf off a fellow female classmate, The Post has learned.

Osman Daramy, 12, allegedly attacked the victim today around noon inside the Dreyfus Intermediate School on Warren Street in Stapleton.

He and a 13-year-old accomplice beat the girl up, punching and kicking her, before she fell to the ground, authorities said.

“Are you Muslim?” Daramy allegedly barked before grabbing at the hijab wrapped around the victim’s head. He was apparently unsuccessful in removing the covering.

Daramy, who has previously attacked the victim four times over a two-month period, was arrested, authorities added. He is also charged with aggravated harassment.

Cops were still seeking his alleged accomplice.

Disciplinary against Daramy is pending, said a Department of Education spokeswoman.

The criminal case will be handled by Family Court since he is a juvenile.

Earlier in the week, on Monday, Daramy had chopped off a female classmate’s hair with scissors before running rampant around the room with the blades, frightening fellow students, authorities said.

“The school placed a school safety agent in front of this specific class so that the teacher could teach her lesson. It’s unfortunate,” said one teacher who declined to be named.

Daramy faces no criminal charges, as of now, for that incident. He was “suspended in-house,” said a school insider.

“This child is a terror. He goes around terrorizing staff and students,” the teacher added.

Insiders at the school say Daramy was also present March 15 when five young punks robbed a deliveryman dropping off pizza and soda to an after-school study program at the school.

The suspects allegedly ambushed the 21-year-old victim as he walked through school’s parking lot carrying the treats.

The quintet of crooks demanded grub and cash before fleeing with just the eats, authorities added.

Three suspects — two girls, 11 and 13, and a 12-year-old boy — were arrested the next day.

Daramy was not named as a suspect in the robbery, authorities said.

“I feel safer walking to my vehicle outside the school than I do walking into my own school,” said one teacher.
