Property values are always a no-win sitation. When you're buying a house you want the value low so you can get a great deal. As soon as you sign the papers, you want the value to skyrocket.
If you're a renter, however, lower property values are always the better bet. Lower property values means lower rent, probably lower insurance, not to mention less competition for the finite number of properties in the area. The only problem? As a renter, you have no control over the property values in your area.
Well, that might not be true anymore. VC Creative Co-op in Tel Aviv is experimenting with an interesting way to drive rent prices down in your neighborhood: litter the place with cardboard cut-outs of hookers.
That's right, hookers. Call them prostitutes or working girls if you want, but it all boils down to the same thing: hookers on the street corner is likely to mean lower rent for everyone.
For some reason,I have the mental picture of someone wanting to buy a house and strategically placing these all around the neighborhood right before the appraisal. Or perhaps as a homeowner, putting them out just in time for the yearly tax accessor visit. The possibilities are endless!
