Health Care for America NOW kicks off grassroots movement

Better healthcare for Americans NOW.  That's the goal of a $40 million grassroots movement kicking off Tuesday.

The coalition of 95 local and national groups is pushing for more affordable, accessible healthcare in Virginia and nationwide.

One million Virginians are uninsured, most of them live in a family that works full-time.

Members of the coalition believe the state's Medicaid program is too restrictive.  They say even people with insurance are struggling with higher co-pays and deductibles.

"They've postponed needed treatment, skipped recommended tests, cut pills in half, or skipped doses of a medicine.  So the United States has an enormous problem," said Jill Hanken, with Virginia Poverty Law Center.

Members of the coalition aren't supporting any particular solution.  They say they want Congress and the General Assembly to be creative.
