Sen. Clinton to visit Syracuse Wednesday

    by Mark Weiner
    Tuesday July 01, 2008, 1:30 PM

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is taking a break from the presidential campaign and returning to Upstate issues.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday will make her first congressional business trip to New York since dropping out of the presidential election campaign.

And where will she visit first? Syracuse.

The public will be able to see Clinton at 10:15 a.m. in Hanover Square, where she will hold a press conference.

New York's junior senator plans to visit in the morning with Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll, hear from representatives of several green business and alternative energy firms, and then meet up in Syracuse with Gov. David Paterson.

While in Syracuse, Clinton will receive a briefing and demonstration from Central New York companies and universities involved in alternative energy research and development.

Among those briefing the senator will be representatives from the Metropolitan Development Association, Syracuse University, SUNY Morrisville, SUNY-ESF, SUNY Binghamton, Cornell University and the Syracuse Chamber of Commerce.

After the briefing, Clinton, Paterson and Driscoll will talk about their commitment to help spur the growth of alternative energy and green jobs.

Clinton will leave Syracuse in the late morning to make her way west for visits to damaged apple orchards in Wayne County and the Geneva area. She'll end her day in Buffalo at the ceremonial opening of the Erie Canal Harbor.

Clinton has made only two other appearance in the state since she suspended her presidential campaign on June 7. In both cases she spoke in high school graduation ceremonies in New York City.

must be she wants to run for senator again...now that she did not make it for president

Doesn't matter where she will be, she will be hailed as a goddess, a legend, a true star. The artical is already written - complete with pics!! I saw Slick Hilly a long time ago when she visited Mike Bragman's home in Cicero. Twenty or thirty of her fans were at the end of Mike's driveway with 'Hillery, we love you!' signs and they were covered by the Post Std and the local TV stations, at length, ad nauseum. But, about a half mile away, being held at bay by the NYSPD were 150 - 200 protesters with their signs calling Hillery a 'Carpet Bagger' and saying 'Hillery, Go Back Home to Arkansas!!'. Now, I understand the need for security, and no sense inviting trouble but to have NO coverage by ANY local media of the dissenters??? Makes you wonder if the local media has their OWN agenda. Things that make you say,'Hmmmmmm'

It's about time she attempts to do some actual work. Only politicians can get paid for one job while actively persuing another, all the while not performing any job.

    Posted by moegro111111 on 07/01/08 at 2:33PM

lakerman1, THAT was a good one!!!

    Posted by wisher33 on 07/01/08 at 2:42PM

Nice she could find her way back to NY...wonder if she plans on visiting again anytime soon? Who knows one day she might want to get a job here...ohh thats right...

Posted by economicDOA on 07/01/08 at 3:07PM

If she fields any questions, I hope someone will ask her about what she is doing for the sinking upstate economy. When the prospective governers marched through upstate (Southern Tier) before the last election, they argued about whether it is insulting to compare the area to the very worst of Appalachian poverty. The elected offical obviously had some distractions but they all fought about how bad it really is, and they all promised to do something about it. The Clinton's bought a house in one of the weathiest (and whitest) areas of Westchester after teasing New Rochelle about the possibity of living there. Is it no wonder she has not noticed that the economy lags for some people and in some places. Regardless of your political views-like her or hate her-she is in a position to make a difference if pressured. So, instead of arguing about how she looks, or how you feel about her, how about sticking to important issues here and with her.

That look says "Great,, I'm back in CNY"

I heard she will be selling bottles of wine at $10,000 a bottle, she needs to pay off that campaign debt.

Posted by jeffrhen on 07/01/08 at 3:21PM

Well, well, well.........Hill is again interested in NY State now that she is no longer running for Prez! How can anybody in the state take this pathetic phony seriously! She is going to be talking about alternative energy? Hey Hillary, how about wind and solar power for our cars and trucks. The last time I looked, they run on gasoline which comes from oil which comes out of the ground and needs to be DRILLED HERE and REFINED HERE! Good grief - how hard is this to understand? Oh yea, it's all about power and control and the loss of our liberties. Keep voting her in NY'ers! I left Manlius long ago for the Lone Star state!

Posted by kegj on 07/01/08 at 3:24PM

hey , why doesnt hillary put her money where her mouth is and use some of her campaign warchest towards paying her supporters healthcare premiums here in cny.

    Posted by mhr59 on 07/01/08 at 3:25PM

Much as I dislike her and mistrust her (I was one of the original "Anyone but Hillary" crowd), I have to admit that given the sad pair we ended up with, she's beginning to look better and better. Now we have a choice between an empty suit and a suit that zips up the back.

    OBAMA 08'

The only thing that is important as of now is the fact that Democrats must unite and stand behind perhaps one of the greatest leaders of our time!

Clinton has figured it out and so has the rest of America; Obama is the choice and the only choice if we ever want to change as a Country and get this Country going in the right direction.

It is refreshing to see Hillary back to work. Leave the real campaign to Obama!

    Posted by Opinionater1 on 07/01/08 at 3:58PM

inkdodger- the only change you are going to get from Obama is from the dollars you spend in taxes- keep your kind of change!

Posted by Lafores on 07/01/08 at 4:02PM

and what direction is that? it's for sure is not "right" litterally and figurativly.

Great leaders of our time, OK,, Please enlighten us an what has he accomplished to earn such praise?

    Posted by mhr59 on 07/01/08 at 4:04PM

inkdodger, I know specifics are not the long suit with Dems, but just out of curiosity, other than taking advantage of the disasterous Clinton campaign, what has Obama done that would even remotely qualify him as "one of the greatest leaders of our time." Possibly at some time in the future he may have a body of work that could qualify him as a leader. Right now he is nothing but another "Chance the Gardener"...a decent, ordinary guy who happened to be at the right place at the right time.

Posted by inkdodger on 07/01/08 at 4:06PM

Opinionater1 - It sounds like you are a Republican who is scared of loosing control of the White House, a White House that never had control.

I would rather pay higher taxes in a more secure economy where everyone's pockets are fat rather than paying low taxes when I have no money because of a poor economy.

    Cheers!

    LMFAO

Posted by orangeallum on 07/01/08 at 4:22PM

You can rag on Obama all you want and vote republican till you're red in the face and it won't change a thing. This state hasn't gone red since Reagan ran and thats not about to change. Obama is crushing McCain in all the issue poles except for the war issue. Personally I could go for either canidate, either way the republicans lose. McCain is pretty left wing on most social issues, and probably the most liberal republican in Washington. Either way the reign of the idiot conservatives in the White House is over. The only downside to this election is that with Hillary out we can't get Bill back in washington to fix the damn economy.

Posted by mrdsteve on 07/01/08 at 4:26PM

And oh so many will come out to see her.. so very many... one person that will not come back to see her is Vince Foster that is for sure....

Obama "perhaps one of the greatest leaders of our time"?!?! Put the pipe down, then tell me exactly what he has done to be put in that category.

Actually, don't bother. Because I can tell you what Obama has done:

(In case you were looking for something, what he's accomplished is illustrated in the above blank space.)

Obama is an inexperienced person who is being held up by the media and his cult-like worshipping followers. He is socialistic in his views, and has a laundry list of communists, socialists, domestic terrorists, and foreign terrorist sympathizers as his friends and supporters.

I'd rather have Hillary than Obama, at least she's predictable and we know more about her.

I want to take this time to wish every person in this great State of New York and every person in this great Country of the United States of America to have a safe and happy Fourth of July celebration and remember all those fellow americans that give us this FREEDOM, politicans, former presidents and our young men and women serving in our present WAR, our first line of defense POLICE AND EMS, All our teachers, clergy and citizens trying to MAKE a Difference in the outcome of this GREAT COUNTRY. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND OUR CITIZENS.

Posted by crazedmaniac on 07/01/08 at 6:07PM

Hilarious is actually launching the upstate New York campaign for Obama in the hopes of getting somewhere around $20 mil in return to pay off her personal debts from her failed presidential campaign. The theme of the kickoff party will be "200,00 new jobs created since the democrats have gained total control of the congress and senate." Of course those 200,000 jobs were created in China and India but who really cares because Bill and Hill are $100 million richer than they were just a few short years ago. So they don't need to see 200,00 new jobs but they would REALLY like to see $20 million.

Posted by crazedmaniac on 07/01/08 at 6:16PM

Oh, and that thing about Obama being a great leader? Great leaders demonstrate how they can get things accomplished - not talk about it. And Barack Obama hasn't even TALKED about what he wants to accomplish.

And in my opinion, that's really too bad because I'm not sold on John McCain's platform. But I'm not hearing anything of substance from Barack Obama so as of right now, I'm leaning towards McCain. And that thing about change? I'm not afraid of change, but I'm fairly curious about what specific change he's actually planning and just how he intends to accomplish it.

Posted by commoncts on 07/01/08 at 7:17PM

lakerman1, if you're referring to the expression on Hill's face and the inference of possible inconsistencies with her purpose in the back seat, I beg to differ.

She's a bit concerned about spots and stains on her wear and was relieved she saw none.

    Posted by HatTrick3367 on 07/01/08 at 7:23PM

Hillary & Obammy = Socialism. You vote for these idiots; you are voting for the closest parallelism to socialism in this country. Case in point: look at the democratic states (New York, California, etc.) with big-government, no jobs except union orientated State initiated jobs, horrible economies, big taxes, and higher than average unemployment. Liberals = Socialists.

One simple way to counter any argument from a liberal is merely ask them, “how”; and they rarely have a viable long-term solution and answer. One thing is certain; they sure can complain about others and rarely are accountability to themselves. “Change?” Yeah right. Change for a liberal is change that helps them, and no one else. The only reason Hillary is supporting this idiot is that he is paying off her debt from the campaign. Liberals = hypocrites = socialists. Wise up New York. At some point, you will realize the democrats have no business knowledge, lack long-term viable goals, and are “in-it” for their benefit. When I heard that Hamas is supporting Barocky for President; that sealed the deal. Thank God for the electoral system.

OH NO! That would make too much sense! We have to be Hyper-competitive! We have to leave our legacy, however disgusting it might be. Hillary, Real New Yorkers don't want you, or need you. Go back to ArKansas, and bake some cookies, and deep fry some chitterlins, and be a real home girl. Isn't there anyone back Home that misses you? You accomplished enough, your daughter is a real Hottie, now it is her turn to Rock. She MAY have half a chance in NYS, you don't =go home, already.

between the local press telling us how good everthing is... "all is well, ALL IS WELL!!!," and fine senators like hillie and chuckie blowing more smoke up... y'know, like the auburn factory, or the fulton factory. It's time to call u-haul and let someone else pay for the mess CNY is in, I am beyond fed up with the half truths, false promises and lapsed commitments. Compare cny to almost anywhere else, our homes are worth less than it would cost to rebuild, our jobs pay less than the national average and it seems as if everything worth having is closing/leaving. Maybe we can all get one of those fine $75,000 a year jobs at the new and improved mall.

    Posted by lakerman1 on 07/01/08 at 9:09PM

rocknruler, 'your daughter is a real hottie' - where did that come from? Her daughter is a graceless spoiled brat, with a face that plastic surgery was unable to improve.

    HatTrick3367,

You state that NY only has union oriented government jobs. Was it not government programs and jobs instated by FDR that got the country out of a depression? Higher taxes can help to bring an economy out of the garbage as well. The problem comes when the tax money is spent poorly. Jobs, education and health care should be the hoghest priorities of any respectable government. These issues impact our society directly. What happened in the late '30s was government money being spent on programs that supplied jobs. The increase in jobs led to more money in the pocket of blue collar Americans. This in turn lead to more spending which created more jobs etc. I think programs like Destiny are exactly what this area needs. Destiny will create many good paying jobs and also bring attention to CNY. Companies will be more inclined to come to Syracuse and set up shop, again leading to more jobs and a more stable economy.

We all can conserve on gas which is our number one problem. Put some pressure on OPEC to do the right thing for world economy. Tighten the turban around there heads a little bit. We are still the leader in the free world. Next election, send Hillary back to Arkansawand put a New Yorker in her place. The mayor of NY would be a good place to start. Bye Hillary this is your las Hurrah.
