Summary (courtesy of Goodreads):
In 2083, chocolate and coffee are illegal, paper is hard to find, water is carefully rationed, and New York City is rife with crime and poverty. And yet, for Anya Balanchine, the sixteen-year-old daughter of the city's most notorious (and dead) crime boss, life is fairly routine. It consists of going to school, taking care of her siblings and her dying grandmother, trying to avoid falling in love with the new assistant D.A.'s son, and avoiding her loser ex-boyfriend. That is until her ex is accidently poisoned by the chocolate her family manufactures and the police think she's to blame. Suddenly, Anya finds herself thrust unwillingly into the spotlight—at school, in the news, and most importantly, within her mafia family. Why I want to read this:
Come on, a future where chocolate and coffee are illegal and paper is rare? I couldn't live like this (total coffee and chocolate addict here!) and so I am more than curious about the life Anya lives. And "poisoned by praline" is such a mafia classic, this has to be good!
On a side note, I put the US hardback up here because the UK paperback looks pretty crappy! If somebody from Macmillan is looking at this: please, PLEASE change the cover - I'm begging here!
Definitely looking forward to this one as well! And amen about the UK cover - we have that one in Australia, too. *shudders*
ReplyDeleteI don't like the UK one at all! I want this so I think I'll get it imported or something.
