Prologue

The ball falls squarely in my gloves, I'm on the 1 yard line. I thought to myself, half laughing it's time to go to work.
I scanned down the field, let's go up the middle. I thought about all my time in college, high-school, and hell, even middle-school that I spent running the ball upfield. I was always able to hit the gas and I loved to let everyone know about it. Who would have thought that after all those I was returning kicks for the Detroit Lions?

Then reality hit me. This wasn't time to reminisce; it was time to play NFL football. A tackle missed here, a juke there, a great block over there. I pushed and pushed. One defender left to beat. I faked left, I faked right, and left one more time. He bit.

I could imagine this on Sportscenter tomorrow. I laughed on my way in to the endzone and thought to myself, HE. COULD. GO. ALL. THE. WAY.As I spiked the ball and shared some love with my team-mates. A return for a touchdown in my first game of the season, I could already imagine what the media would say when I turned on the TV when I got home. Hester who? It's all about Ray Trudgedon. I shared a high-five with my blockers as we headed back to the sideline overcome by the energy filling up Ford Field.

Then the strangest thing happened, I heard the most insufferable buzzing. My head ached as the noise filled up Ford Field

"Damn it!" I yelled, smacking my alarm clock in rage. I heard my mom yelling through the wall, "RAY! Get to school, you're gonna be late!" I guess my dreams of returns and touchdowns would have to wait, it was time to start the day. And man, was it a big day.

Hi Guys. I decided to make another CL. I had alot of fun doing my Michigan Chise a while back but school kicked my ass and I had to stop. I have alot more free time now, I love to write, and I love NCAA so I decided to post this. Hope you guys enjoy. peace

I drove through the maze of thin, busy, and bustling Detroit streets with no significant spring in my step. The fact my alarm clock had awoken me from my lucid dreams of the NFL still had me in a bitter mood, little did I know today would lead up to a series of events which culminated in me being able to take another step on the long, hard journey to living my dreams.

My time in class was spent like it was any other that day, staring out the window of my writing class at the football field, Having daydreams of the NFL, or having daydreams of hearing the 107,501 simultaneous cries and cheers of rabid fans of the Wolverines wash over me as I scooted in to the endzone at the Big House. I was a smart kid, I could’ve been a huge prodigy, but no, my love was football. I did the homework, and made sure it got turned in on time, just enough to pass, despite the nagging of my parents. I was able to stare my way through the day until practice that afternoon.

I made my way to practice and immediately walked my way over Coach Reviello, who was already prepping for his speech to the team. Coach Reviello was a really down to Earth person. He wasn’t the smartest, didn’t always make the best decision, and wasn’t destined for a Hall of Fame, but he knew how to get us motivated. He put effort in to every one of his speeches, every time. He got so in to it, we all called him “The Reverend”. He came over to the cluster of pumped up 18 year-olds with a focused look, you could tell he worked hard on this one. As he approached us, everything went silent, the Reverend was about to speak.

"For months... for weeks... hell, for the whole year we've been counted out, looked down on, and under estimated. Tomorrow marks the biggest test of your lives up to this point. This will be a test of speed, strength, skill, heart, and hunger. They've got the number one offense, number one defense, and number one team...

For some reason I felt like laughing, this was the understatement of the century. We were at the bottom of the barrel team in the playoffs, taking on the top seeded Henry Ford Trojans. They had the two best players in Michigan, John Weeves, a running back who we heard has never lost a game in High School, and Brian Gutierrez, a linebacker who sends people home on stretchers every week.

...But today, as we conclude this practice, just ask yourselves this, gentleman. How do you want to be remembered? With that being said, as we walk out on that field tomorrow night, into hostile Trojan territory, I ask one favor of you, and one favor only. Tomorrow night, on that field, give me every drop of sweat, every ounce of blood in your heart, soul and body, and when the dust passes, and all the smoke clears, regardless of the result, you will walk off that field tomorrow as winners. Now bring it in, Jungaleers on 3"

No one knew exactly what a Jungaleer was, but we were the South Eastern Detroit Jungaleers and we loved it. You could feel the energy as we place our hands together in the air, and yelled, “JUNGALEERS!”

We worked our asses off in practice that day, we wanted as good a chance as we could get to at least put up some competition against the Trojans. But afterwards, I needed to unwind. I decided to go to the mall for some pizza, the only one of my friends who wanted to come was John Rainey, who coincidentally went to Henry Ford High School, but he was still a great guy.

I was hungry, and most of his side of our conversation flew right over my head due to lack of attention; that was until I heard something that changed the whole landscape of the playoffs.

“So, you know that guy on our team, Weeves? He got in a bad car crash yesterday, there’s no way he can play.”

My ears perked up like a cat

“Oh?”
