Wednesday, October 06, 2004 - Page updated at 12:00 A.M. Antiquarian Fair celebrates books
The region's premier event for book collectors takes place this coming Saturday and Sunday when the Seattle Antiquarian Book Fair & Book Arts Show opens its doors at the Exhibition Hall at the Seattle Center. This event, which attracts book collectors from around the region, features more than 100 American and Canadian dealers of used, rare, collectible and out-of-print books. Also displayed are maps, posters, prints and documents, along with the work of book artists, conservators, papermakers, binders and letterpress printers. Items on offer range from $10 vintage French postcards to a $10,000 original review copy of Ken Kesey's "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." The event has picked up a number of exhibitors in the book artists category because of the demise of the Northwest Bookfest, formerly a venue for book-arts exhibits. Louis Collins, a spokesman for the fair, said "we regularly pull in attendees and exhibitors from across the U.S. and Canada as well as England and Germany." Doors are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5 at the door (kids under 12 admitted free) and are good for both days. For more information call 206-323-3999 or consult the Web site at www.SeattleBookFair.com. Mary Ann Gwinn, Seattle Times book editor
