Josh, is there any indication whether the three-packs will be 3 BD keepcases in some sort of slipcase, or an awful digipack style job??
You can probably guess what I'm hoping for
These are going to be seriously good looking Blu-rays! Lowry's frame-by-frame restoration made these films looks as good as Casino Royale. They were also re-done while DTS owned Lowry Digital Images so we have not only the best picture but best sound as well.
So the newest movie is "quantum of solace" ???? I give up...what kind of name is that?? It sound
like something to do with particle physics... WOW, I'm speechless by the new name of the Bond
film. Will this attract crowds with it's unusual hard to understand name??? I'm glad to see that
some of the Bond flicks coming out on Blu. Although Thunderball is a classic, the first volume seems
to be the better buy. I could not stand the model for mens fashions (aka Pierce Brosnan) as Bond.
The new comer Craig wasn't worth a second watch of the first movie which was poor in general, but
let's hope the new movie is good despite the puzzle-like name it has.
What sort of title is "Quantum of Solace", you ask? Well it's an Ian Fleming title. BTW Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Connery and "Casino Royale" is a top 5 Bond movie.
That's Awesome! but: i'm going to wait a year or two when the entire 22 blu-ray boxset of every James Bond movie ever is released! i mean that boxset might be around $450.00 but it's so a deal!
Finally! I've been waiting forever for these James Bond movies! Is it me or do studios seem to not like 7.1? Still, DTS-HD MA is awesome! I will be picking these up the first day!
Is that how they're going to release all the 007 James Bond movies on Blu-ray?
In sets of 3? If so ... I'll buy Vol. 1 and 2, and wait for 3 etc.
There's 21 Bond movies at the moment. Hope they release 7 volumes quickly ...
Hmm, but I already own Casino Royale lol ... and Quantum of Solace might come out soon ...
Looks like they're selecting their titles for the boxsets very carefully so as to maintain the same level of interest with each one. So we have some classics (Dr. No, From Russia With Love, For Your Eyes Only) some fair/middling series entries (Live and Let Die, Thunderball), and a turkey (Die Another Day).
Lyle: Hell, I'd even take 5.1 remixes for all of the Dolby Surround movies (from 'The Spy Who Loved Me' on). But yeah, if that's the only option for the mono movies, much as it pains me I won't be getting these.
I've been going through the DVDs (first 6 films down, bunch more to go). Generally I cannot stand stereo or surround remixes for movies that were mono when they came out, and just about never bother with them. The Bond DVDs have marvelous DTS (surround) tracks, that's all I've been listening to. They did a wonderful job with them. They sound fantastic (although Dr. No sounded a bit on the shrill side, as I recall (both the mono and DTS)).
Really not that big of a loss to not have the mono tracks, assuming they actually end up without them. The DTS mixes are fairly conservative for the first 6 films anyway.
Also, after my comments regarding the PQ of the first 5 films on DVD, upon watching #6 (On Her Majesty's Secret Service), I was forced to re-evaluate. Blu should be significantly better. I'm now thinking I will be taking the plunge on some of these at least.
[I'd rate Thunderball above the fair/middling range, by the way. Dr No I found to mostly be a snore-fest, took 2-3 times to make it all the way through that one - I think it's aged pretty badly, except for Ursula of course. From Russia With Love was decent, Goldfinger pretty nice too.]
