What makes a successful blog? The question could have many answers, depending on the objectives a blogger has with their blog.

In my case, success is measured in my enjoyment in having an outlet to share tips and information, spread affiliate marketing industry news, and posting an occasional rant.

Of course, it does enhance the process to know that somebody is paying attention, so I see my pay for the blog in the currency of feedback, both private and public, as well as the daily readers on the site, via RSS, and email.

There are a few attributes that I think make for a successful blog: consistency, originality, and writing in one’s own voice.

I’ve been posting to my blog seven days a week for years, and my material is original. Some people say it’s hard, that it’s a job.

I enjoy it. The day it feels like a job, my blog will go dark. I don’t anticipate that happening, as I enjoy communicating.

The original content part is one of the things that holds bloggers back. But there is an easy solution… solicit feedback and input.

A decent amount of my posts is based on questions I receive at AskShawnCollins.com. I also collect data at AffStat.com. Both are sources for my original content.

I also think it adds a good dynamic for a blog to provide more than text - I incorporate my own videos, podcasts, and photos to provide additional options for receiving my opinions, ideas, and resources.

Every post I make is a small success, a part of an overall, ongoing project that makes my day more fun and interesting.
