Just over a week ago here in Gainesville, Fl., our city was graced with the presence of thousands of punk rockers and fans coming from all corners of the country to take part in The Fest 7. Fortunately, the Gator fans were out of town for the weekend, walking aimlessly drunk somewhere in Jacksonville for [...]
Forty years after the release of the White Album, the Vatican’s official newspaper has issued a statement forgiving John Lennon for saying that the Beatles were “bigger than Jesus”.
The comment, made to a London newspaper, caused outrage among Christians, mostly those of the American South. Hundreds of Beatles records and memorabilia were burned in huge [...]

I am more than psyched that I stumbled across this guy. Grooveshark blogging aside, the Internet gods have bestowed upon me cyberspace contact with someone who not only finds the same euphoric bliss in Radiohead that I do, but was able to translate this reverence into a lucid verbal discourse… aka a cool paragraph or two.
Alex Lloyd, known by the stage name Prdctv (which just so happens to be a Radiohead reference to the OK Computer track “Fitter Happier”), is a UK-based artist who recently delved into the boundless genre of fusing traditional instrumentation with electronica.
In the works on his debut album, Alex was ever so kind as to share with us just what it is about Radiohead that explodes his auditory synapses. Although this may belong in a cheesy fan contest to win backstage passes, or a knob from Colin’s synthesizer, or a lock of Jonny Greenwood’s beautiful hair goddammit, it’s a beautiful homage and Alex makes some great points about where musicians draw inspiration and what makes them great.
“I’ve often felt that one of the great ironies of music is that every band or musician’s history is a story of other artists. Musicians do what we do, sound how we sound, even think how we think because of the music that has influenced us. Every one of my musical milestones has been marked by a band; the band that got me into music was Muse; I formed my first band just to play The Strokes’ Reptilia; I started writing electronica after hearing Four Tet’s exceptional Rounds album. But throughout this progression, one band has remained on a whole different tier for me; unique, unrivalled, and hugely influential in my development as a musician. Radiohead. Continue Reading »
After years of waiting and sitting through these ‘harajuku’ days, Gwen Stefani and guitarist, Tom Dumont, got together and figured, what the hell - let’s go on tour. It’s been about four years since No Doubt has done anything while Gwen’s been running around, marrying Gavin Rossdale, and starting her own punk rock partridge family. “I think that if we go out on tour it will inspire us to write. I need to see the fans out there,” According to their website, nothing will be going on this year, but look for a tour popping up sometime around April - along with a new CD release. Finally, the long-awaited return of modern rock’s pin-up girl.
I absolutely must stand up for one of my favorite books by publicly shunning the upcoming movie version. I would like to thank Peyton Reed for ruining a perfectly good book. You have taken what I think is one of the most hilarious and touching books I have read in years and destroyed it by making it into what looks like a slapstick comedy starring the king of horrible slapstick himself. Looking at your directing resume, I’m not surprised. With past projects including Bring It On, The Weird Al Show, and the 1997 television version of The Love Bug, it’s not a shocker that you would ultimately fail at directing this movie. And I haven’t even seen it yet.
From what I can tell of the trailer, it appears that Jim Carrey is confused, and has chosen to reprise his role from Liar, Liar once again in this movie. Thank you, Jim Carrey, for making a fool of the author and character himself.
The author, and lead character of the book, Danny Wallace, is radio producer for the BBC in London, a writer, and the genius behind multiple funny shows on the “telly“. Continue Reading »

I know, I know, it’s only been like two days since Thanksgiving, and if you are anything like Beth, you probably wish this holiday season could come and go without being all over your face 24/7. However, the Christmas season is thrusting ahead whether you like it or not. To help you cope, Stephen Colbert has created a holiday special sure to fill your cold shriveled heart with ooey gooey happiness. “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!” aired a few nights ago, and is jam packed with guest musical appearances, including songs by Colbert himself, Feist, Toby Keith, and John Legend. Autumn Music Festival came and went with all the warning and force of a winter storm and I sit here, spent from my vices and basking in the glow of a computer screen, a snapshot of my generation, wracking my brain to make sense of the past 12 hours. Smells Like Teen Spirit…
My first impression upon driving up to the venue: Damn, they really did set up a rave underneath a bridge. My next thought: Is that guy spinning Nirvana? To House music? This is going to be an interesting night.
