Speeding. A Bad Idea!

Be smart diving the rural highways! Here's a blurb from a web-site local to the star party:

"One warning for your trip. The roads are all very good and you may be able to get away with speeding on Interstate 5, but you won't here. We have very little traffic, and that makes you an easy target for the Highway Patrol. Drive carefully and enjoy the scenery."

Don't spoil your time with a speeding ticket!

New TAC-Shasta E-Group

------------

This group is especially targeted for active observers in the vicinity of Alturas, Redding, Eureka and Crescent City. It can be a great place to talk about observing and making plans to get out together... Join TAC-Shasta e-mail group!

GSSP Now, and the Future

-----------

NOW:

GSSP currently has 291 registered attendees. An attendance cap has been set at 300 adult registrations.

We set this limit in order to have achievable, reasonable goals, that we know are manageable. We did not want to grow in an uncontrolled manner, and risk not having proper management or planning of the event. Once we hit 300, we will evaluate whether to expand. This will depend on what facilities are available beyond what we have committed to, and how many attendees sign up to help as volunteers.

This year, our main goals are to establish ourselves at the new location, and keep things simple in order to focus on our attendees, amenities, our hosts and their community.

THE FUTURE:

In 2009 we plan to reintroduce door prizes and perhaps some on-site activities. In 2010, a reasonable expectation may be a retinue of speakers and workshops.

Those of you who attended TAC annual star parties over the past years know how we handle registration:

In 2009, as in past years, we will e-mail pre-registration notifications to attendees from 2008. They will have the first opportunity to sign up for 2009. After a few weeks, attendees from years prior to 2008 will receive notice. After a few more weeks, general announcements and open registration will begin.

In 2009, we will most likely keep our size at the same limit, estimated to be 300 adult registrations. In 2010, we may raise it, based on our experiences in 2008 and 2009.

If you are interested in attending GSSP this year, our suggestion is to register now. Once we reach our limit this year, there is no guarantee we will raise it.

Please direct any questions to us via the contact button in the GSSP Information column.

Clear Skies,

The GSSP Organizing Committee

The GSSP Photo Project

Bring Your Digital Cameras!

This year, we've decided to invite all attendees to participate in photo-documenting the star party.

The only shot that won't be "candid" is the group photo of all attendees, scheduled for Friday after dinner, and taken by Jim Brown. All other shots may be contributed by the attendees.

We'll post an e-mail address and a deadline for submitting the photos after the star party. Once received, we will post them to a web-page with a poll, so you can rate your top picks out of all received. The top X-vote getters will grace the GSSP web-page for 2009, with photo credit, e-mail and web-page links if desired.

About the photos.... they can be any subject matter. At the star party, telescopes, people, astrophotos... around the area, in Adin, day trips, unusual or interesting sights.

It's the experience we're after. Your participation is what will make it fun and interesting...

And, remember, when someone points that camera at you....

Smile... :-)
