Hawaii hotel occupancy, room rates down

Hawaii hotel occupancy fell to 75.6 percent for the week ending July 26, down 3.8 percentage points from the same time last year.
Room rates also fell statewide, down 1.8 percentage points to $222 a night, as compared with the same week last year.
Occupancy and room rates for the four main island were as follows:
- Oahu occupancy was up 3.7 percentage points to 82.3 percent, while room rates also rose 3.7 percent to $193;
- Maui occupancy dropped 9.1 percentage points to 71.1 percent, while room rates declined 4.4 percent to $300;
- Kauai occupancy was down 10.1 percentage points to 77.5 percent, while room rates were up 3.3 percent to $237; and
- Big Island occupancy decreased 16.8 percentage points to 59.5 percent, while room rates were down 10.6 percent to $191.
Nationwide, hotel occupancy fell 3.4 percentage points to 72.8 percent, while room rates grew 2.1 percent to $107.
