Capcom doesn't want to water down the gore in Resident Evil5
strategyinformer.com — Capcom has revealed that it will not be cutting down on the amount of gore that will be present in Resident Evil 5 as an attempt to get a lower age certification. "We're never going to create a gore-free Resident Evil title to try and get a lower rating as it's a game about the horror experience and gore is part of that," commented Rhys Cash..

- CoolGoose, on 07/23/2008, -11/+28Yea Resident Evil 5 will be so much cuter with pink fluffy bunnies and candy poring from the zombies head.
- Blandyman, on 07/24/2008, -0/+7Before anyone calls me an idiot, I know you're being sarcastic.
But for something to lower the gore level doesn't mean to add candy and replace explosions with visual representations of happiness. What it means, is that dismemberment won't happen, blood won't land on the camera, or blood won't shoot out at all, or heads won't explode how they do right now (really nice, if i may add.)
It has nothing to do with making the game *****, it would just take out some flair. No, don't take it out, I like my bloody Resident Evil. But if, say, Call of Duty doesn't have blood, no one would really care, because it's a realistic shooter, blood isn't entirely necessary.- h4mx0r, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2There is blood in Call of Duty. Observe the splash as one gets shot. However there are no blood stains or splatters I think.
- Managua8Green, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2yeah there is. I get headshots and I see their blood on the wall behind them. its a real nice touch.
- nebbo, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5That would be a cool unlock, like the confetti grunts in halo 3.
- Blandyman, on 07/24/2008, -0/+7Before anyone calls me an idiot, I know you're being sarcastic.

Fixed.

- DavidGX, on 07/23/2008, -2/+84Good show, Capcom. RE4 was freakin awesome, I can't wait for RE5.
- JamieSI, on 07/23/2008, -2/+29From what we saw at E3, Resident Evil 5 is looking like it'll play very much the same as RE4, which isn't a bad thing. So hopefully more gore elements will be added :p
- dragon76, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6My ONLY complaint with RE4 was that they removed the puzzle element from the game just to add more action. I'm glad Konami still makes Silent Hill games is all I'm sayin'.
- TheKingInYellow, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1the puzzle elements in RE4 were walk up kiosks with dials and slider puzzles that opened doors and released keys, jewels and monsters. so they weren't removed entirely...they were just limited and lame. i'd much rather move statues around to square depressions on the floor to open doors and get jewels.
- xEn1gma, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Those puzzles weren't THAT bad...come on now.
- dragon76, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6My ONLY complaint with RE4 was that they removed the puzzle element from the game just to add more action. I'm glad Konami still makes Silent Hill games is all I'm sayin'.
- DamageInc, on 07/23/2008, -4/+36"In other news, Nintendo announces that Resident Evil 5 will not be available on the Wii."
Seriously though, RE4 Wii Edition was great and hopefully they only improve upon it with 5.- Smoove, on 07/24/2008, -2/+2YOU BASTARDS!
- CollapseControl, on 07/23/2008, -15/+30No *****, why would Capcom try and tone it down? It isn't going to the Wii next year. It's going on the 2 consoles left that still make games for adults.
Anyway, RE5 will be the 1st great title of 2009! I can't wait to get more info on the Co-op.- BoonTobias, on 07/23/2008, -6/+1i saw at a gamestop that sf4 is coming out on march 2nd, when does re5 come out?
- amanilaenvelope, on 07/23/2008, -3/+1may 19th i think.
- Blandyman, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4March 2009. Friday the 13th.
- Harbinger67, on 07/24/2008, -6/+1Really? The first? Killzone 2 comes out in Feb '09...
- Blandyman, on 07/24/2008, -2/+2Which is why he said "first GREAT title" not "first title people might actually people."
Yeah, I'm being sarcastic, but don't be such a dick either, because remember: a lot more people hate Killzone than the amount of people who like Resident Evil.
- Blandyman, on 07/24/2008, -2/+2Which is why he said "first GREAT title" not "first title people might actually people."
- Jhiaxuz, on 07/24/2008, -3/+9In defense of the general issue and not as a fan boy as I own no consoles and I do not advocate that violent games = violent kids.
The misconception is is that blood = adult themed game when it's really the action which produces the blood which should be under more scrutiny. You shoot something regardless and it's the affects of whether blood is present or not.
In Soul Caliber or Tekken, you would hit someone and a spark would be produced. Rated T. In Mortal Kombat, you hit someone and blood would be released. Rated M. Yet they both have the same fundamental principles in that you have to hit your target.
Call of Duty 1-3 you shoot endless waves of Nazis but is rated T. Call of Duty 4 you shoot endless waves of Muslims and Russians and it is Rated M. The difference? More blood. Yeah, there is swearing as well but based on the ESRB it is labeled with intense violence as opposed to minimal violence.
So really, if all the difference is is bloodletting but you still perform the same actions it makes it a rather moot point to say it's not adult-themed. If I hit someone with an orange in a sock without leaving a mark, is it no less explicit than if I used my fist and left bruises and blood?
The only exception would be decapitation.
/rant- Blandyman, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Except an orange in a sock would be hilarious, while your fist would just be weak and kind of sad :(
Joking aside, the difference lies in that blood creates more realism, and there is a strong opposition to blood in all ways of life. You see an open cut, and it's kind of icky, but you see an open cut pouring blood and that ***** is ***** gross. I have no problem with blood (in real life or video-games) but it's true, people can't stomach blood.
Take another example, this time in the same series: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time used daggers and swords to stab opponents, cut them in half, split them at the waist, stab in the head... a million things. But these creatures were made of sand, and as such, turned to dust when killed.
Fast forward a title, and you have Warrior Within, where blood was introduced and instead of characters turning to white sand, they turned into black dust with a hint of red 'blood' particles let out. But since the distinction was made (and your mind connects with blood) there is a relation to a more violent act.
Yes, it's stupid, I know. But if you look closer at the way someone reacts, you show them one thing, then again, but this time with blood resulting from the action (a punch to the gut, someone spits up blood, a stab to the waist) it causes a bigger reaction, because it indicates more pain. It's just how we naturally react to things.
Sorry for ranting as if I knew anything. I'll go back to being dumb :(
- Blandyman, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Except an orange in a sock would be hilarious, while your fist would just be weak and kind of sad :(
- heysuburbia, on 07/24/2008, -3/+12That comment doesn't even makes sense, the Wii has plenty of adult games:
Resident Evil 4
Man Hunt 2
Scarface
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles
The Godfather
No More Heroes
Dead Rising
MadWorld
etc...
Also, if it wasn't available for the Wii, it was on PC:
CoD 4
Devil May Cry 4
Gears of War
Bio Shock
The only game that I would want to play not available for my PC/Wii would be GTA 5 and Reggie, president of Nintendo of America, has been talking to Rockstar about a Wii GTA- Anorhc, on 07/24/2008, -6/+4Look, it's called a generalization. If you want to prove that the Wii has games for the older crowd, you're going to find them. Listing mature games will not dismiss the generalization that the Wii is aimed towards a younger audience.
- o0joshua0o, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4Stop bringing in all these silly facts to mess up his unsupported assertion.
- veganpunk, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1I missed the Dead Rising Wii Edition.
- heysuburbia, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1http://wiinintendo.net/2008/07/21/dead-rising-chop ...
- veganpunk, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1well I'll be. I already have it for the 360, but that's cool.
- BoonTobias, on 07/23/2008, -6/+1i saw at a gamestop that sf4 is coming out on march 2nd, when does re5 come out?
- sisko2k5, on 07/24/2008, -1/+14More Gore...Horror...I think we can handle it as responsible adults
- Justice101, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Quick, shoot that zombie in the crotch again!
- VgRasta, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Haha, I just shot that zombie's butt!
- cdhill, on 07/24/2008, -2/+22I wish it was for the Wii. RE4 was awesome with the gun, and I'd played it twice before. But the gore is part of the charm, albeit pants-***** charm. Why change what made it so popular? It sells so many copies already, why worry about drawing in tweens into a zombie slaughtering game? The older market IS the target, and the game should reflect that.
- mightyslick, on 07/24/2008, -4/+1You played it twice through? WOW i never finished the game. The gore ...Blahhh who cares ..game play , game play, game play. Agreed the older market is clearly the audience but most of the game , IMO was just ok. the gore, much like the game play and story didn't compel me to continue .
- jo21, on 07/25/2008, -0/+3no, i prefer they waste a big budget to make the game that another shovel ware for the wii
- Thekirby45, on 07/24/2008, -2/+27man is it going to feel weird without a wii mote playing it. I was so use to the controls in re 4 wii ill manage I guess
- justice7, on 07/25/2008, -1/+1i dont particularly enjoy the wii controls in fps games. I feel like i'm in the "ready position" constantly waiting for the football snap before i can tackle the screen. Sure you can rest your wrists on your legs or some dipsy-***** thing like that, but I still feel like a complete fudgetard playing with a dvd remote and Michaelangelo's dildo.
- Almadiel, on 07/24/2008, -2/+3didn't they already do a gore free-version for the japanese wii?
- Failchan, on 07/24/2008, -9/+1The game isn't even in the alpha stages...how could they have released a gore-free version? And for the "japanese Wii"? Did you just make that all up?
- septicmadman, on 07/24/2008, -1/+7You either need to apply a bit more common sense or fall off a tall building. He is obviously talking about RE4. Does it make you penis seem bigger if you're mean to people?
- laguano, on 07/24/2008, -0/+4Yes, he is definitely talking about RE4. And Failchan, when he said Japanese Wii, I'm pretty sure he meant the Japanese version of RE4 Region locked to a Japanese Wii. Why do you have to be so demeaning? Pathetic.
- heysuburbia, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3No, they just took out decapitations
- Failchan, on 07/24/2008, -9/+1The game isn't even in the alpha stages...how could they have released a gore-free version? And for the "japanese Wii"? Did you just make that all up?
- spacebuddy, on 07/24/2008, -1/+2This game will be awesome.
- chamberlanderic, on 07/24/2008, -14/+3I'm a atheist but: thank GOD!
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 07/24/2008, -1/+8We don't care if you're an atheist. This is an article about video games.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 07/24/2008, -2/+6I'm a Christian but: thank SCIENCE!
- GregIsLegend, on 07/24/2008, -0/+16Kudos Capcom.
Take note Hollywood. - exomni, on 07/24/2008, -1/+17This was ever a question?

- exomni, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1A question, was ever this?

- Vostok, on 07/24/2008, -0/+9Sticking to their guns, I like it.
- denizen42, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Indeed, it's nice to see niche gaming win over of the pressures of mass market crap.
- sockpuppets, on 07/24/2008, -11/+1More gore?
It has manbearpig in it? - Owwmykneecap, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6There are a surprising amount of white zombies in Africa in recent clips.
I hope racists like N'Gai Croal are happy :)
Seriously though this will be all shades of awesome.- drjekelmrhyde, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1You know there are Whites and even Asians that live in Africa, I don't know if this game represents the true ratio but there are some
/Tourist, UN peacekeepers, and aid workers- mrhedges, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Uh... Are you trying to say that the only whites and Asians that live in Africa are tourists and peacekeepers? Ever heard of apartheid?
- drjekelmrhyde, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1You know there are Whites and even Asians that live in Africa, I don't know if this game represents the true ratio but there are some
- AwesomeMonster, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Eh, the wii controls were a double edged sword. Sure it was definitely a step up from the slow relatively clumsy cube controls but it also made the game far too easy. What we need is a middle ground.
- Darkangel754, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Or just make the game a lot harder, more enemies and such.
- AwesomeMonster, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1then it isn't resident evil at all and simply another gears.
- Darkangel754, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Well Resident Evil 4 was barley a Resident Evil and since 5 looks like a clone of 4 than I don't think that would matter too much.
- terminal157, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1I prefer Darkangel's idea. The controls shouldn't be made more difficult, the game should. Controls being good and easy to use shouldn't be seen as a negative.
- AwesomeMonster, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1in survival horror it should be. A game isn't scary if you know that you can kill everything with great ease.
- Darkangel754, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Or just make the game a lot harder, more enemies and such.
- u8muhrice, on 07/24/2008, -0/+14good to hear, I am glad Capcom is not catering to those who criticize the game for
a) Racism
b) Too much gore- Kanten, on 07/24/2008, -5/+2Is that why most of the black characters were absent from the E3 trailers?
- AzureRise, on 07/24/2008, -0/+10Wrong. They altered the game because of the racism remarks. More white zombies and the sidekick is now black (I want Jill back!).
- Typhoon2009, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1The sidekick is hot though.
- TheVigilante, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1Jill was NEVER confirmed to be in RE5.
- AzureRise, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1She was mentioned to be in the game in an interview. In the original trailer at the end the girl is light skinned like Jill, definitely not the new chick.
- ZenMojo, on 07/25/2008, -1/+1Imagine that. They alter the game to make it more reflective of the inhabitants of Africa while at the same time tamping down remarks of racism and it has absolutely no effect on gameplay.
Countdown to whining at 3...2...1....
- harajukukei, on 07/24/2008, -0/+9the game is definitely racist against zombies..
- Andrwmorph, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Wouldn't it be lifeist?
- DeadOhioSky, on 07/24/2008, -3/+3Buried for being a question nobody asked.
- aftern9ne, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3Mark my words, it'll just end up rated M like all the others.
- blahtastic, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3Didn't Sony or Microsoft previously say they wouldn't release anything above M?
I thought it was Sony and Nintendo had the same position on Manhunt 2, hence the filtering of the gory goodness to bring it back to M.
That said, since when did gratuitous zombie gore inflicted with conventional weapons run any risk of going above M? Boobs on the other hand, or a sexual act or situation (one necessary to the survival of our species i might add), that would just be damn awful. Can't have that in an M rated game. - heysuburbia, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Man Hunt 2 got slapped with an AO rating and had to cut some ***** out, but there are Wii ISO's around that reveal the censorship that brought it down to M.
Also, Sony forbids AO games, so Capcom will most likely cut back if they have to. As much as they're a great company, they still need to make $$ and believe you me they'll make sure it gets a M rating not an AO
- blahtastic, on 07/24/2008, -1/+3Didn't Sony or Microsoft previously say they wouldn't release anything above M?
- RadioFreeOpium, on 07/24/2008, -4/+3its also the only reason people play resident evil. I mean, wheres the fun in blasting zombies without the ensuing pools of gore?
- poontangpirate, on 07/24/2008, -9/+3Al Gore.
- Kanten, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5"“We’re never going to create a gore-free Resident Evil title to try and get a lower rating as it’s a game about the horror experience and gore is part of that,”"
LIARS. What was Umbrella Chronicles? Also, the randomly missing Hunter decapitations in REmake and Zero? - Papajohn56, on 07/24/2008, -1/+14how the ***** can anyone call RE racist after the first 4 games were white/hispanic zombies
- Kanten, on 07/24/2008, -2/+25In America it's only racist if it's against blacks.
- ZenMojo, on 07/25/2008, -1/+1Correction: In America it's only racist if it's one race killing hordes and hordes of another race.
- Kanten, on 07/24/2008, -2/+25In America it's only racist if it's against blacks.
- CrudeDarkness, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1It's a video game for God's sake. the blood and gore isn't even real. I say that capcom needs to add more blood and gore until they reach a point where if you add anymore gore the game would be rated AO.
- crepuscular, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1it's the fear factors that drew me to play RE series ever since RE1, was a bit disappointed with RE0, RE3 and RE:CV comparing them to RE1:DC and RE2, but RE4 was awesome... though i have yet to purchase a PS3, but looking @ the gameplay of RE5, it's gonna be awesome!!! :D
- Emachines56, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1why appeal to the masses, appeal hard core gamers like us that are Bord of Pokemon 13.
- IADTatami, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5Greetings, Bord. I am IADTatami of Earth 1.
...at least, I assume it's the first.

- titanx413, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1good
- TStanNY, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Thankyou Capcom for keeping my zombies thirsty
- Cyberdactyl, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1A hose down of Gore. Yeow, now that's an extreme far out fantasy if I ever heard one.
- urik88, on 07/24/2008, -1/+2My kudos to Capcom for not being influenced by the demands of dumb people.
- broodking, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3watering down in general = less in enjoyment
so go capcom - trunks6008, on 07/24/2008, -0/+0damn right, i love dead people. ... if you can kill cop's in GTA 4, what's the problem for more gore.
- FireLark, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3if they would just combine the two games, i could die happy. i want to run around the open world of gta, where the streets are infested with zombies attacking nonzombies. then throw in multiplayer for good measure.. that's the plot right there, no need for any more of a story line than kill zombies.
- peestandingup, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1They wont abandon gore, but they will abandon Nintendo apparently.
- trunks6008, on 07/24/2008, -3/+0resident evil lost soooo much money when it licensed with nintendo. especially with GameCube. resident evil 4 sold 3 times more for on PS2 than GC. And because the next-generation system is all about realism and physic, the wii doesn't have any of that. wii games are fun to play, but they suck in general.
- AzureRise, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3So gore, they won't censor, but some racist ***** accuses them of being racist and they add white zombies in Africa and replace Jill with a black girl to show they're not racist?
- o0joshua0o, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1Usually the most racist person you can find is the one accusing everybody else of being racist.
- Zornography, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2God Bless Capcom!
- pHysiXmzkz, on 07/24/2008, -1/+0lol that's the picture i use for my avatar >.< go capcom!
- reyoo30309, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Who exactly thought they would be cutting content? I mean re4 was first released on the GC...
- Darkangel754, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2I really hope this come out on Wii at some point, after you've played RE4:Wii Edition there's just no going back :(
Capcom's pretty good at porting games to weaker hardware so it's not out of the question. - iPoul, on 07/24/2008, -1/+0Thats the spirit!
Wish more game developers had balls like that. - harajukukei, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1as they should. rendering and designing gore in games takes time, toning it down would be wasteful and cost more money.
- sHockz, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1good job capcom. dont let the ratings ***** push you around. make it as real and gory as possible, cause that is what we want.
- Crazymik3, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1I *heart* Capcom
- Shellbait, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Good.
- xEn1gma, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1This game is giving me a boner.
- Zedian, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1Don't know how else to put this but I hope you don't think I am strange for saying this but let's have a boner 2gether.
- Twenty5, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Who said that we wanted a "water down" version of the game in the first place??
- Zedian, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1I would hope they don't take all the violence out. Anyways this game is looking very sharp and should be one of the best for 2009.
- Tophillious, on 07/24/2008, -2/+1Here's a great article on the racism issues in RE5:
