Tributes have been paid to a Highbridge farmer who was a big name on the national farming scene.
80 year-old Arthur Duckett died on Thursday following a short spell in Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
He shot to fame when one of his bullocks, called The Field Marshall, was officially named the biggest in the country. The animal, pictured here, weighed an astonishing 3,682lb (1,670kg).
Arthur, who lived in Alstone on the outskirts of Highbridge, was also a licensed equine technician who travelled thousands of miles each year as part of his trade.
The 80 year-old hit the headlines in January when Sedgemoor District Council’s enforcement team investigated a celebratory birthday poster involving him, as pictured right, in Highbridge.
Former Mayor Derick Cooper told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Arthur was a strong character who was passionate about Highbridge.”
“He stood on the town council several years ago and always spoke up for the town. He will be greatly missed.”
