Just came across this term on a death certificate I have received and am now wondering if I have the correct one.

The person concerned was an just an Agricultural Labourer on 1841 and 1851 census.

I have what I hope is his death certificate and his occupation is given as Husbandman.

From what it says here  this would not appear to cover just an agricultural labourer.

What do you reckon?

Thanks.

An ag lab could get the tenancy of a small farm and be described as a husbandman - one of by gggfathers went from cattle drover, to cattle dealer, to farmer. By the late 1800s husbandman was really only another name for a farmer, probably specialising in livestock rather than arable.

While a husbandman rented the small farm which he occupied, his rent in the early 19th century and earlier was often paid with labour rather than money.
