History of The Rose Cottage
The Rufford Abbey Estate was originally a Cistercian Abbey, founded by monks from Riveaux Abbey, North Yorkshire in 1148. The Rose Cottage was part of the estate and in 1891 Mr Alexander Lauriston was the head gardener for the estate.
In 1938 the estate was broken up and the present Rose Cottage was sold into private hands. The Rose Cottage eventually became famous as a tea room and restaurant. We are hoping to continue the tradition.
