This election is not over!
The polls show Obama ahead, by different degrees, but they fail to show that Obama has EVER been able to close the sale. Obama has only a six point lead in an averaging of national polls. Those show America is not so much rallying to Obama as running away from Dow Jones. His lead is not because of any good Obama credentials for a president, or a brialliant campaign, but dreadful Wall Street news. In spite of that, Obama can't close the sale.
This, too, will pass as McCain shows the effects of a Democratic Congress, led by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, who have an approval rating half that of Bush, and when they reflect on what this Democractic congress have accomplished since they took control of congress almost two years ago.
It would also be well to remember that at this same point in time Michael Dukakis was ahead of Vice President George H. W. Bush by 17% and in 2000 Al Gore was ahead of Governor George W. Bush by 11%.
Each time the voters take a long second look at Obama, their first positive impressions seem to dissipate, in view of political reality. Here is where McCain wins. The country wants change, but have not concluded they want Obama; in fact, they're saying that Obama is not it. If voters have not concluded that by this time, and put Obama over the top, it will likely not happen, because of the nagging and negative thoughts that linger about him.
There are grave doubts about Obama's agenda, his associates, his record, his character, his fitness to be president. This precludes any surging enthusiasm for an Obama victory ever to become a reality. It simply won't go away.
The lead will decrease as Palin rips Obama for palling around with domestic terrorists like William Ayres, who conspired to bomb the Capitol and said he wished he had set off more bombs. These doubts, as well as "ACORN," and Farrakhan and Ayers and Rezko and Wright and how Obama lost Chicago it's affordable housing, while putting 6 million dollars in the pocket of his convicted friend and developer of the project: Rezko. These all will remain and become ever more critical as voters have a second thought about the character and the multitude of other items that reside in Obama's Achilles' heel, and in voter's minds, his great vulnerability, and the doubts about him that still exist, and are ever rising in the public mind. With only several weeks left, closer scrutiny happens, and Obama loses.
It is a given that this site is largely Liberals; who comment in great quantity, but little quality; however, there is a great silent majority out there who refuse to blow off, but actually ... vote.
As a politician, Obama has lacked the courage to seek true reform. As a state senator, he silently and at times vocally cooperated with Chicago's Democratic Machine to preserve one of the most overtly corrupt political systems in the nation. And he maintains his silence even now that he has made it big and has the political capital to do something about it, because his closest political allies -- the ones who drafted and gave him popular, must-pass bills to herd through the state legislature -- are waist-deep in that corruption.
McCain and Palin are making headway as they show the nation how Obama is an unacceptable occupant of the White House. They are no longer confined to the limited arsenal of Gerald Ford, Bush 1 and Bob Dole when they went down to defeat. The momentum is returning as McCain and Palin show:
Obama as a politician, has lacked the courage to seek true reform.
How the Rev. Wright, Ayers, Rezko, Farrakhan debacles reveal Obama's poor judgment of character and deceitful nature
Obama's irregular land deal with a felon, Rezko, who has since been convicted of corrupting public officials
- How Obama has misled voters about his own views, his past personal relationships, and his political opponents
Why Obama's inexperience and extreme left-wing voting record is more dangerous than any threat we face today a typical big-government politician, the #1 most liberal U.S. senator, and -- if he were commander in chief -- a serious threat to our national security.
McCain also has Sarah Palin! Sarah is, above all, a David-and-Goliath story, in which a young populist reformer goes head-to-head with an entrenched and corrupt political establishment -- and comes away victorious. Obama and Biden are looking over their shoulder, and the Democrats are getting more nervous by the day -- as Sarah shows, they have good reason to be! Even the latest attempted "TrooperGate" issue about Palin is being questioned according to the :
Latest from: Anchorage Daily News:
Because Branchflower's report does not recommend any particular penalty for Palin, it shows the investigation was outside the Legislature's authority, campaign Meghan Stapleton said.
Branchflower's finding that Palin broke state ethics laws is beyond the scope of the original investigation, which Stapleton and O'Callaghan said was to determine if she had a legitimate reason for firing Monegan.
Sen. Gene Therriault, R-North Pole, said the report is flawed because Branchflower didn't take into account statements and other materials submitted earlier this week by Todd Palin and administration employees who earlier had resisted subpoenas.
Two other lawmakers said the governor and her husband's actions were understandable.
Another member of the Legislative Council, Rep. Bob Lynn, R-Anchorage, said he thinks Branchflower's findings are wrong, and that Palin didn't violate the ethics act.

I think there just might me more McCain supporters out there than people think. They just don't feel the need to shove their views down everyone's throat.
Yes, it is a new day. My husband and I invested our savings in the stock market and we are now broke. Our retirement funds are gone. That is the new day. It will take me a while to get used to it. I don't want to hear any more about the new day or the Messiah. He will lead us to more ruin.
It is a diverse and complicated time right now. Just the time when lots of folks are coming to a definite decision as to how they will vote or IF they will vote.
For me, that is a sad thing about this election that so many are choosing not to vote because they don't like either candidate. Obama is a magnificent orator who can fire up an audience, where McCain can't, but Obama's rhetoric fades just as quickly as it lit up a crowd.
I seem to be seeing people looking deeper now. For someone they can believe and trust, and though both have past issues that some find appalling...it' may have to be the one seen with the lesser. We know it will be one of them! Let's hope it is McCain.
I have respect for McCain for many things he has done, but Sara Palin frightens me beyond question. She is not somebody I can vote for in any way shape or form. I am not sure about Obama, but I know Republican politics. I have listened to McCain, and I don't like his solutions to the problems, when he has given them. I have to say I am going to back the lessor of two evils at this point.
I am overcome with emotion over all that is happening in this country over this. I have serious reservations about Palin. Serious. I honestly do not think that I can vote for her in all clear conscience. I would have voted for Senator Clinton but since that is not the case I don't know that I will vote at all. I hate to say it but that is the way that I feel about this at least today, at this very moment.
Families and Friends are being torn apart at the seams by this election and do not see it getting any better in the days to come.
I am hopeful for McCain to win. My hope now is that just as in the primaries, when Obama would lead in the polls ahead of Hillary and Hillary would win and surprise some, the same will happen in November with McCain.
I think this is one election we are all going to be sitting on the edge of our seats, watching every one predict early wins, which I think personally should be against the law. I think it influences other voters where precincts are still open. They should all keep quiet untill after 12AM EST to have the western polls closed. Personally, I think a lot of people will make up their minds in the ballot booth, nothing is ever over until the fat lady sings, lol, so I can't predict here, and not even hope, as it will come out one way or the other, and sadly, don't think it will make a lot of difference as we have a democratic congress now and they haven't done anything to help us out, and now all lying through their teeth, both parties, to get re elected. I wish my phone would stop ringing. Take care Sophie.
Conservatives, by nature, tend to be better educated and less outspoken. Remember the term "silent majority'? Not everyone is being flimflammed by Obama's showmanship and everyone is concerned about his background and unsavory affiliations.
This has been a nasty campaign, beginning with the Hillary vs Obama mutual mudslinging and it continues. It seems that the only complaints against McCain and Palin are that he is old and she has an unusual accent. It's pretty hard to discredit honest, sincere, capable people like Palin and McCain, but the Dems are trying.
Obama has little substance or experience, but is a charismatic speaker. He has convinced a surprising number of people to drink the Kool-Aid without questioning its contents. I am afraid that his power of persuasion, like Adolph Hitler's, will lead to the downfall of our country. We wonder how people could follow Hitler, but he worked the same sort of dark magic as Obama.
Would you please enlighten us further with a verification that "conservatives, by nature, are better educated"?
Does that mean they are educated by nature? As opposed to institutions of higher learning? Stats or verification, please. I am really curious.
And "less outspoken?" Where does that come from? Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity?
Whoaoooo...I won't even get into your "power of persuasion=Hitler claims... got to get back to making a living...
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Solomon was not born a wise man. He prayed for wisdom and God said, "Because you have asked this and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, behold now I do according to your word" (1 Kings 3:11). And Daniel admitted that in himself he had no wisdom (2:30) but he said, "To thee, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, for thou hast given me wisdom and strength, and hast made known to me what we asked of thee" (Daniel 2:23). And we have seen how Paul prayed that the churches might be given "spiritual wisdom" (Colossians 1:9) and that they might have "a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of God" (Ephesians 1:17). And finally James puts it as clearly as we could wish: "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God" (James 1:5). The wisdom that leads to true and lasting happiness is not natural or inborn. It is supernatural. It is a gift of God. Therefore if we would "get wisdom" we must pray to God for it.
When you "ask" of God does he tell you to judge with this brutality? Unbelievable. This collassal ignorance and arrogance is the curse of the nation.
Anyone who has looked at Obamas track record of friends and associates know that its a racist thing and Obama is milking the I am black race card as far as he can... He and the others forget that he is part white too... I dont trust him or his wife.. and I am beginning to think that anyone who is for him might have ADD. and lacks the ability to look for good character in this man....and cant make decisions for themselves...
Despite his incredible success re-packaging himself as a moderate over the last year, obviously many either know of his voting record and questionable associations, or just the opposite - simply scared of someone they really don't know at all.
While all indications are that Obama will win, this deal is far from over.
The margin is quite beyond statistical error as you well know and is growing daily. The most heinous and despicable accusations have been thrown at Obama yet he still grows. Perhaps instead of attributing that to the weakness and failings of his supporters you should look at the fundemental corruption of your own prejudice and assumption. As with EVERY argument posed by the right these are hollow, ignorant shells designed to duck the unbelievable failings of the Republican party. McCain will lose on the issues AND on this slime.
A quick run down here shows approximately 9 commentors uncommitted, 10 for McCain, and 6 for Obama. I guess that was my point. Even on a liberal site, McCain comes out ahead, noting those for McCain ordinarily refrain from name calling and personal insults.
Some speak of being afraid of Palin, and others scared to death of Obama. Many spoke straight from the heart about this upcoming election, where it's been, and where it's going. Mostly the grave concern shows through for wanting to do the right thing as each individual sees it.
I am more decided than most and I know that I could not vote for Obama for many reasons:
During his past two years of running for president, he had plenty of opportunities to take the lead on major issues in the U.S. Senate, but he didn’t. He could have easily blended his plan for the nation on the campaign trail with a leadership effort in the Senate. (Where did he get the money for a 1.5 million dollar home?)
Also, his vacuous campaign which is basically, "I'm for change...McCain is not... He's like Bush..." I needed some reasons to vote FOR him, instead of AGAINST Bush, and they never came.
Obama is reinventing Carter, and we definitely don't need another four years of Carter. Four more years of Bush would be better. Jimmy Carter never tried to "govern from the center" or "seek bipartisanship." He could easily have passed tax cuts or defense spending increases. He did not want to. Barack Obama has never sought bipartisanship. He embraces Leftism completely. They are the same: Barack Obama is our next Jimmy Carter, who never had a good word about America.
For me, Obama rhymes with corruption with so many corrupt. McCain has basically one...Keating ... for which association he was termed innocent.
There are McCain supporters out there, they ARE the silent majority. It is that knowledge that gives me hope, in the face of a proclaimed Obama victory.
And, even if others do not agree with you, they should at least give you credit and respect you for your courage and integrity.............
The fact that you apparently don't even know the meaning of "rhyme" (Obama=corruption) lets us know quite a bit about your education-or lack thereof (see Jan S.)
And "termed" innocent? What does that mean?
...and you think a $1.5 million house in Chicago is big deal for two Harvard-educated attorneys to have?
My 28-year old son, with only a bachelors degree just bought a .5 $million condo there.
Just what is your problem? You simply can't admit that you might have bad judgment?
For the sake of your credibility, please look up the definition of "rationalization" before you make your next post. And then there is "statistical analysis" - a class you might want to take in order to further enhance that "better-educated" reputation.
Good comment, Jeff.
Patricia B,
Spoken like a true liberal.
And you do seem like a good person-- just misguided--:-)
Sandy, I didn't know whether this was the best place to bring it up, but I think it's important that people know about it.
I think the first step is to get rid of the "old" as much as we can, by voting for Obama, then start working on real change.
That's why I could not support Hillary---we've got to wipe the slate as clean as we can. Of course there will still be a lot of chalk dust, but that's better than adding to the grease that has accumulated in the past 8 years (i.e., voting for McCain)
I think the first step is to get rid of the "old" as much as we can, by voting for Obama, then start working on real change."
So, in other words, throw the baby out with the bath water........
What kind of baby is that, Berf?
I'd call it a monster...
He also obviously lied about having never heard Rev. Wright's hateful "preaching." Pouring over Wright's past sermons, the church web site, and viewing numerous videos told me that his hate spewing was not a one-time thing. Unless Obama only went to church on Easter and Christmas (and Wright didn't speak this way on those occasions), he could not have missed this. Another lie.
All we really know about Obama is what he shared in his books and press releases. It's absurd that the media fell for that. We have his lousy voting record as well. Not something about which to brag.
He spoke of his time as a community organizer, but has never shared what he did as a community organizer. He claims he has executive experience from being the director of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, but he neglected to tell us that project was a failure. By its own account, CAC was a failure. And a series of critical evaluations point to reasons for that failure, including a poor strategy, to which the foundation over-committed in 1995, and over-reliance on community organizers with insufficient education expertise. So much for Obama's great executive experience.
What lifted my spirits the other day was knowing that Reuters polls indicate that Obama and McCain are almost tied if all you're doing is counting the people who will actually vote. I think we all forget that some of the most outspoken inviduals online will probably never vote. Many are probably not even registered.
Can McCain win? You betcha.
2 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
Prayer is the answer. God's will be done.
I'd call it a monster..."
So, anything that is not a part of your personal worldview is unacceptable, is that what you're saying??........
