Police investigating the murder of Joanna Yeates banned ITN from attending a press conference because they felt the television station’s coverage had been critical of the inquiry.

Avon & Somerset Police reported the commercial television station to Ofcom, complaining that its reporting was “unfair, naive and irresponsible”. The highly unusual move prompted ITN to accuse the force of censorship and also prevented millions of viewers from seeing an appeal to help to trace Ms Yeates’s missing sock.
