Remarks:
This work was commissioned by Rea Magnet Wire Company to commemorate its 50th anniversary and is named after physicist Herman Helmholtz. The sculpture was conserved and repainted in Oct. 1989. Concrete pads were added in 1988/1989 because the piece was settling; and floodlights were added in 1989. IAS files contain copy of museum accession record sheet and excerpt from Michael McCarthy and Claire Ewart's, "Sculpture All Around Us - Fort Wayne Museum of Art," 1988.
Plaque located about 6 feet in front of sculpture reads: Mark di Suvero U.S. b. 1933/Helmholtz, 1985/Painted steel and stainless steel/Gift of the artist and the Alcoa Foundation/on behalf of Rea Magnet Wire Co., Inc.
