New For Nintendo!
After a couple of quiet weeks (in part because I didn’t check the Nintendo store), we have some games of real interest this week. Dsi owners are well represented, there are a couple of WiiWare titles, and a very cool Virtual Console release.
WiiWare
Mister Bumblebee Racing Champion
h2f Games – 500 Wii Points
Ok, not the most impressive game to start with. But the little ones out there will love this fun little racing game. With four playable characters, your little gamer can either play solo or with three friends across the six available tracks.
NEVES Plus: Pantheon of Tangrams
Abylight – 500 Wii Points
This is interesting. The player is given seven stones which must be combined to fill the silhouette picture. There are more than 500 silhouettes available and players can team up with three other players for some multiplayer fun. Get competitive in versus, speed, lucky number and party modes.
DSiWare
A Topsy Turvy Life: The Turveys Strike Back
Tecmo Koei – 200 DSi Points
Another Topsy Turvy game. This time around it is a Topsy Turvy shooter, with the player having to destroy the Earth defence force. The game uses unique controls on the Nintendo handheld and offers a new perspective. Two players can compete with each other on the same console.
Advanced Circuits
BIP Media – 200 DSi Points
A fiendish puzzle game for those that want to really test themselves. Complete the circuits by connecting squares with pieces of track. Each puzzle has only one solution, so be prepared for some frustrating times. Play through challenge mode with 60 predefined puzzles, or go random with free play mode.
FieldRunners
Subatomic Studios – 500 DSi Points
Tower Defence games don’t get much better than the amazing FieldRunners, now available on DSiWare. Upgrade your towers and revise your tactics in preparation for wave upon wave of both land and air forces.
Can’t find a DSi screen. Hopefully this iPhone pic will give you an idea of what you will be getting.
Puffins: Let’s Roll
Other Ocean Interactive – 500 DSi Points
A cute little action puzzle game where the player has to guide the Puffin eggs back to their mothers. With an innovative control scheme, the player must navigate around 20 levels of fiendish puzzles whilst avoiding hazards. This looks like fun.
Tales in a Box: Hidden Shapes in Perspective
Nintendo – 500 DSi Points
We round up the DSiWare games with something really different. Is this the game that sparked all of those early 3Ds rumours? This is a hidden object game with a difference. Using the DSi camera to track your head, the perspective on screen actually changes to give the impression of looking into a 3D world. It really is quite incredible.
Journey through a fairytale world finding hidden letters and objects. This game has to be the highlight of the week.
Virtual Console
Final Fantasy II
Square Enix – 900 Wii Points
Last game of the week and it’s a classic. Final Fantasy II (or Final Fantasy IV in the series chronology) sets the player on an epic quest as the dark knight Cecil. Expect the usual Square Enix magic from the past.
Well, I think it is pretty obvious which game I favour this week. Tales in a Box offers something unique, which is always a bonus. It may take a little getting used to, and if you have pink walls then you are doomed. But it is worthwhile and the game will provide you with lots of entertainment. Watch out for the GGUK review.
Until next week, have fun!
