Product Description
This second feature-length film based in the STARGATE SG-1 universe, a follow-up to STARGATE: THE ARK THE TRUTH, finds the SG-1 crew attending the execution of the nefarious Ba'al, the supposed final System Lord of the galaxies-spanning dominant alien race Goa'uld. When Teal'c and Vala suddenly evaporate into thin air, however, the rest of the crew heads back to Earth as quickly as possible in hopes to get to the bottom of their bizarre disappearances. What they find is worse than they could have ever imagined. A world in which the Stargate was never discovered awaits them, thus negating much of their own history and personal pasts. Before they can convince the military that not only did this time-tampering occur, but that it is the handiwork of Ba'al, hundreds of Go'uld ships line Earth's orbit. It's up to Maj. Gen. Director: Martin Wood Star: Ben Browder, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Special Features: Anamorphic Widescreen - 1.78 Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround English Subtitles - English, French, Spanish Optional Additional Release Material: Audio Commentary - "Commentary with Executive Producer/Writer Brad Wright and Director Martin Wood" Behind the Scenes - "The Making of Stargate Continuum" Featurettes - 1. "Stargate Goes to The Arctic" 2. "Layman's Guide to Time Travel" Running Time: 99 minutes

If Continuum, the second feature length, made-for-DVD film spun off from the long-running Stargate SG-1 television series, marks the end of this wing of the franchise--and it is hardly a certainty, given the show’s Lazarus-like history--then all involved, including the viewer, should be well satisfied. Continuum commingles all the elements that have made Stargate so eminently watchable over the years, including engaging characters and storyline, plenty of action, impressive sets, and first-rate special effects. This time the whole gang is on hand, as the most recent SG-1 contigent (Ben Browder as fearless leader Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, Amanda Tapping as the brainy Lt. Col. Samantha Carter, Christopher Judge as the implacable alien Teal’c, Michael Shanks as the ever-resourceful Dr. Daniel Jackson, and Claudia Black as the irreverent, motor-mouthed Vala) is joined by characters whose roles had been reduced or eliminated along the way; principal among the latter is Richard Dean Anderson, whose Major General Jack O’Neill makes a welcome return after sitting out The Ark of Truth, the first post-series film (both of Stargate Command’s head honchos, played by Beau Bridges and the late Don S. Davis, are also back). The villain is familiar as well: Ba’al (Cliff Simon), the last of the "Goa’uld system lords," who’s scheduled to be executed--or, more specifically, "extracted," whereby the bad mojo inside him will be exorcised. Things don’t quite go as planned, of course. Ba’al has managed to manipulate time, creating a situation where Mitchell, Jackson, and Carter find themselves caught in a paradox, an alternate timeline in which the Stargate program never even existed, making it easy for the bad guy and his gigantic space brigade to launch an all-out attack on Earth (though long-threatened throughout the series, such an invasion never actually happened until now). Our heroes’ intrepid efforts to thwart Ba’al’s dastardly scheme take them from the Arctic (for real) to the cockpits of F-15 jets and even the hold of a 1930s cargo ship (built specially for the occasion). All this, and Browder portraying his own grandfather too? Yo, Stargate: Continuum rocks! --Sam Graham

- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2025This was a great movie, after seeing it I went back in search of seasons 9 and 10 which I was unaware existed, SG-1 was a great series and I believe it ended not because anything went wrong, but because it split in several directions and even people who enjoyed it could not keep up with new episodes. I thought SG-1 ended at season 8 as they went off to explore Atlantis for 8 seasons. Then a couple movies popped up and the new leader of SG-1 seemed to have a history with the rest of the team, so I had to go back and find 9 and 10. This movie makes watching them all well worth it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2024Once again, good production quality, writing and directing. Good story. DVD's arrived in excellent condition.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2008Yeah, I am a huge Stargate fan. The franchise created by Jonathan Glassner and Brad Wright is the longest running sci-fi series in the US. While longevity might not always indicate quality, Stargate lived 10 seasons on network TV because it presented long story arcs along with interesting characters and situations that you wanted to watch week after week.
So, with that, this second movie produced after SG-1 was not renewed as a series on the Sci-Fi channel-- "Continuum" was definitely a treat. While the prior movie tied up lots of loose ends, Continuum is really a continuation of the franchise. The use of an alternate time line provided an opportunity to give familiar characters different roles than they have played in the past.
The story, without revealing any details is "simple". Ba'al as a continuing bad guy has a fail safe to prevent his (un)predictable demise. The Stargate time line is changed and the Stargate program is not developed as it had been on Earth. It is up to SG-1 to set things right, stop the destruction of Earth and the Gou'ld take down of the galaxy. For such a familiar story line you would think it would be getting OLD. Guess not!
Highlights? Jack O'Neill makes an appearance. Vala is wonderfully different in character, as is Teal'c -- both characters revealing a potential past. The concept of time travel --especially getting to see how it is accomplished-- is always fun, along with the paradoxes time travel always seems to present. Oh, and as one of my friends always used to say to spoil things I had not seen yet.... "everyone dies".
If you are a fan, Buy this movie. You will enjoy it. If you are not a fan, start with season 1 and work your way forward! You only have 10 seasons of spectacular sci-fi to get through.
I just hope that this is not the last thing we will be seeing of Stargate SG-1. A tear forms in my eye thinking that might be the case....
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2024A must for fans of The Stargate series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2008Continuum works a timeline/time-travel plot which is very similar to that of Moebius (from the eighth season on TV). All's well that ends well - or so it seems. Can we be sure that we are back in the "correct" timeline in each of these SG-1 stories? The fish situation in O'Neill's pond (comparing Moebius vs. Threads) was treated none too subtly, for one thing.
While we awaited its release, the hype surrounding Continuum seemed to imply that individuals were disappearing at Ba'al's "execution" as a result of a change in a timeline such that they were not meant to exist in it. Hasn't that hokey plotline been done before, and would the Stargate writers really do that to us? At any rate, look who vanishes first. And check out that special "knowing" look on Ba'al's face at the second disappearance. Clearly there is a plan afoot.
Isn't one timeline - however it may branch off from another - just as valid as any other timeline? The "alternate" Landry most adamantly addresses this idea to the SG-1 team who had somehow jumped into his timeline and is trying to "fix" things. Further viewings bring more thinking on the matter. Stargate consistently does that, ya think? I so love this series for that, and one could not ask for better actors to move it along.
The writers are always exercising their collective intelligence to the extreme, and they have given us a consistent series of episodes over the years - filled with character development, irreverance, team spirit and reasonably good science. Let's have one more movie that takes its time in these matters and allows the characters to enjoy each other more. And enough with alternate timelines and time travel already. That's been done to death. Let O'Neill SO kick some Tokra butt, and have him and Carter finally get it on in the "official" timeline and retire to an ascended state, or at least the state of Minnesota. "Fly Away" by Bread would make a perfect ending song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ba'al's swansong
`Continuum' is the second of the Stargate SG-1 TV movies and I feel it is far superior to `The Ark of Truth'. This movie sees the conclusion of the Ba'al clone storyline from the series with SG-1 overseeing the death of the last of the Ba'als. Ba'al has one last trick up his sleeve though and, through the use of time travel, sees to it that Earths gate is never found.
`Continuum' is a great fun film that is very enjoyable and is a great ending to the Stargate series. The film could have probably used a bit more in the way of time in order to get the best out of the storyline but it nonetheless gives a good account of itself in the one and a half hours that it got. The acting and the script are on a par with the series proper but I must say that I did like Claudia Black's performances as her Goa'uld persona Quetesh and Cliff Simon as Ba'al is always enjoyable. There where a few small niggles with the special effects in places but otherwise they were on a par with those seen in the series.
Overall, despite a couple of problems, `Continuum' proved to be a great film that is a must see for any Stargate fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great show - But Universe was MUCH better and too short lived.
What can I say. Netflix stopped offering this on Stream, so I bought it, as Stargate was always my fav show. But NOW, someone (Hey Netflix! Psssst!) really needs to continue StarGate Universe. Even though Richard Dean Anderson was the original that did the series for 9+ seasons, I found Universe to be the best of all, and the morons cancelled it? Idiots. Atlantis was just an extension of the original, because they bled it into the original... Unlike Universe, the way it was SO special and separate, even though along similar lines. Why they cancelled it is a great mystery... it had way more than the required numbers t keep it going. I could throttle the producers. Such morons... guess they loved all the money made from the first 2, they didn't need more from Universe. So fine, let someone else make a big whack of million$. They'd deserve it for bringing it back.
