The Female Hospital Palanpur won the “Indian Achiever’s Award for Healthcare Excellence” from the Indian Economic Development & Research Association (IEDRA), and organization operating on national and international levels with the object of promoting economic welfare of individuals and countries. The award was received by Managing Trustee, Shaileshbhai S. Mehta at a function held along with IEDRA’s National Seminar on “Outstanding Contributions to Nation Building and World Peace” in Delhi recently. "A team of IEDRA had visited the Hospital and selected it for the award in the health sector," said Mehta.

Founded in 1917, after leading citizens Vahalubhai Meghji Mehta, Ujambhai Manekchand Kothari, Dharamchandbhai Manekchand Kothari, Jechand Malukchand Mehta and Tribhaovandas Harakhchand Shah were shocked by the untimely death of a young woman during childbirth due to lack of adequate medical facilities, it ran as a one-room dispensary till 1926, when It got converted into a full-fledged hospital for expectant mothers and children thanks to the Nawab of Palanpur, Taley Mohammed Khan who donated the tract of land on which it stands today.

Since then the institution was upgraded with generous financial assistance from the Jee Parivar and Shri K.D. Parikh Charitable Trust, and now comprises the Jee Children’s Hospital, which was opened in 1998 and moved into its new building in 2004 and the Shri K.D. Parikh General Surgical & Medical Female Hospital, whose new building was opened in 2009.

Both these institutions have state-of-the-art equipment and facilities and a highly qualified team of doctors, providing quality treatment to patients not only from the city and its surroundings, but even for women from other districts and neighbouring areas of Rajasthan. The Hospital is gearing up for its centenary celebrations which are a few years away.
