Sevilla beat Barcelona to go top

Ten-man Sevilla came from behind to beat nine-man Barcelona 2-1 and take the Primera Liga top spot on Saturday.

Ronaldinho headed Barca in front after 13 minutes and was brought down in the penalty box, which saw Sevilla defender Aitor Ocio sent off, after 28 minutes.

But the Brazilian's spot-kick was saved and Alexander Kerzhakov levelled before the break, after which Daniel Alves put Sevilla ahead with a free-kick.

Barca then self-destructed as Ludovic Giuly and Gianluca Zambrotta saw red.

Giuly was unlucky to be sent off in the 62nd minute after tussling for the ball with Alves, while Zambrotta was sent off for collecting two yellow cards inside a minute in the 76th minute.

Sevilla are top of the table with 50 points, one ahead of Barcelona who drop to second and must now lift themselves for Tuesday's crucial Champions League visit to Liverpool.

Third-placed Valencia kept up the pressure with a 1-0 home win over Celta Vigo, courtesy of a goal from former Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes.

Real Madrid, who are fourth on 43 points, host local rivals Getafe at the Bernabeu on Sunday.
