HAMDEN, Conn.
? Junior Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) netted a team-high 17 points and grabbed nine
rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Dartmouth men's basketball team fell at Quinnipiac,
85-63, on Wednesday evening.
The Bobcats (5-5) shot an amazing 65 percent from the field,
including 9-of-12 from beyond the arc. Dartmouth (5-5)
struggled throughout the game, shooting 38 percent.
In addition to Barnett's 17 points, junior DeVon Mosley (Mesquite, Texas) and
senior Micheal Giovacchini (Salt Lake
City, Utah) both
added nine points.
Quinnipiac and Dartmouth
traded baskets for the first four minutes, but the Bobcats were able to knock
down their first four 3-pointers to open a 22-7 lead with 12:38 remaining. DeMario
Anderson led the way with ten of his game-high 27 points, including two trays.
Junior DeVon Mosley (Mesquite,
Texas) cut the lead to 25-10 with a 3-pointer
and classmate Adam Powers (Western Springs,
Ill.) added a lay-up at the 11:11
mark to make it 25-12.
After a three-point play from Anderson, Barnett added back-to-back jumpers
to get the lead down to 34-19 at the 5:30 mark. Mosley hit a deep three with
3:25 remaining to pull the Big Green within 14 at 37-23.
Anderson
would net four points in the final two minutes of the half to give Quinnipiac a
43-25 lead into halftime.
Mosley led the way for Dartmouth
with nine points in the first half, while Barnett had six points and seven
rebounds, including three offensive boards. The Big Green attacked the
offensive boards with 10 in the half, but had a tough time converting them into
points.
Quinnipiac was on fire in the first half, shooting 55
percent from the field and was 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. Anderson netted 19 first half points, while Casey
Cosgrove poured in nine points for the Bobcats.
The Big Green opened
the second half with an 8-4 run to cut the lead back down to 14 at 49-35 with
15:25 left as Barnett sunk his first three shots of the half. Quinnipiac,
however, pushed the lead up to 58-37, thanks to a quick six points from James
Feldeine.
The Bobcats began to pull away with a 19-12 run over the next
five minutes. Anderson
would add six during the run, while Casey Cosgrove hit his third 3-pointer of
the game to push the lead to 77-51 with 8:03 left.
Dartmouth would shrink the
lead to 81-61 with an 8-0 run, highlighted by four points from senior Johnathan
Ball (Memphis, Tenn.). Both teams would trade baskets over
the final four minutes as the Bobcats earned the 85-63 win.
The Big Green will be back on the road this coming Saturday
as Dartmouth
travels to Army for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
