3D Printer/3D Scanner access MUST be pre-approved by an instructor currently teaching in the RCC’s Mixed Reality Cluster.
Bookings are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
All users of the 3D printing/scanning Lab MUST have an account on the KeyTracer system PRIOR to booking the facility. NO EXCEPTIONS! In contrast to the more commonplace fixed time-slot bookings, KeyTracer access to RCC-357C is based on a single key drop-in/drop-out process (please note that KeyTracer user permissions are cleared at the end of each semester). The KeyTracer vended key MUST be returned to the KeyTracer station when you are not physically in RCC-357C. Otherwise, other students will be unable to access the 3D Printing/Scanning Lab. You can sign-up for Keytracer access here:
www.rcc.ryerson.ca/keytracer/keytracer.htmlAccess to the 3D printer may be denied if MRPC staff determine the 3D project is "oversized". Material usage of the 3D printer is electronically monitored and charges may be levied for projects that exceed 9 (cubic) inches.
3D Printing Terms and Conditions:
The 3D Printer and Cleaning Station are to be turned off when not in use. This step is necessary to minimize heat build-up in the 3D Printer Lab.
Please note that it takes approximately 30 minutes to warm-up the uPrint and Cleaning Station.
The 3D Printer Lab is to be kept clean and tidy at all times. Failure to leave the 3D Printer Lab tidy will result in an immediate suspension of printing privileges.
The removal of printed object and post-cleanup of the objects from the material support trays is to be completed outside of the 3D Printer Lab. This should be completed in the Hybrid Computing Lab. Please ensure that no support debris etc. is left on the floor, tables etc.
Safety goggles and rubber gloves MUST be worn when placing or removing models in the Cleaning Tank. Safety glasses MUST be worn at all times when removing printer support materials from the 3D models and Modeling Base. Please note that printer support material that has not dissolved in the Cleaning Tank is extremely brittle. Unsafe removal of this material may lead to serious eye injuries.
Gloves must be worn when removing models from the 3D Printer. Printed objects can be extremely HOT!
For long or overnight print jobs, the 3D Printer should be set to automatically power down after the print job is completed. The process to enable the auto-shutdown is:
1)
While the printer is building, press the Auto Power Down button on the Printer’s control panel.
2)
Turn the power switch, located on the left side of the printer, to the OFF position.
3)
The printer will display Auto Power Down Mode and the printer will power down as soon as the build is complete.
