Panaji: A new train on the Konkan Railways

Panaji: The Ministry of Railways on Saturday introduced a train connecting Pune, Navi Mumbai, Goa, Mangalore and Ernakulam via Konkan Railway.

The new Ernakulam-Pune super-fast bi-weekly express train will leave Pune at 6.45pm on Wednesdays and Sundays, reach Panvel at 9.20 pm and reach Ernakulam next day at 7 pm. The return train will run on Fridays and Tuesdays at 5.15 am and reach Pune on Saturdays and Wednesdays respectively at 5.50 am.

Railway officials said that it will be the first train from Pune to run on Konkan Railways following a consistent demand for a regular train on this route from the Malayali community in Pune.

It is among the four new ones announced in the railway budget 2010-11 by railway minister Mamata Banerjee.

The train will have 17 coaches, including one two-tier AC and three-tier AC, seven sleeper, six unreserved and two SLR coaches.
