Anyone who grew up listening to live music in Birmingham knows who Telluride is.
For more than 30 years, the group led by Rick Carter has been a staple at clubs and other venues around the region, playing now for a third generation of concertgoers.
But there’s another Telluride, apparently, and it’s not in Colorado. It’s a Nashville-based band that is trying to take over the name and has gotten Carter involved in some litigation to keep his band’s name.
A fundraiser on May 22 at Rogue Tavern aims to help Carter’s cause. “Rock Out for Rick,” from 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. will help him raise funds for the legal battle to keep the name of Telluride with him.
Organized by local musician Justin Johnson and Rogue Tavern owner Wayne Herring, “Rock Out for Rick” will feature performances by Oceanship, Rollin’ in the Hay, Altamont, William A, Kush, Chris Posey, Sweetwater Road, Johnson, Adam Hood, Matthew Mayfield and, of course, Telluride.
A $10 donation will be taken at the door, and additional donations can be made, too.
