    Crisis: Asteroids & Comets

Ten Asteroid Encounters That Almost Got Us (And Still Could)
posted on Tuesday, October 14, 2008

How close have we come to death from the skies? The October 2008 encounter over Sudan with a three-metre-wide asteroid provides the best confirmation in a while that objects larger than harmless little "shooting star" particles can score a direct hit on Earth. Though this particular asteroid burned-up in the atmosphere, larger such objects could make landfall. The really scary thing is that we really have no way to detect what might be hurtling toward us right now.

Twelve 'Any Time, Any Place' Survival Tips
posted on Friday, October 10, 2008

If you haven't done so already, I encourage you to begin living like our hardy, self-reliant ancestors did: put enough food, water, first aid, and emergency supplies away to deal with potential disturbances; start a private garden and/or join a community garden; get to know your neighbors; build community with your family and friends; cultivate a relationship with the Divine. The kind of safety nets that society has told us we can count on -- bank accounts, insurance policies, pension plans, investments, governmental agencies coming to our rescue, etc. -- will, I believe, no longer provide the security they once did. Instead, the time has come for us to begin to depend on ourselves, one another, and the deep Forces of life (God/Spirit) that so many of us have lost touch with...

Followup: Arlington Institute: Potential Disruptive Event
posted on Sunday, October 05, 2008

About three weeks ago, now, I received indications from four unrelated sources known personally to me suggesting that that some significant disruptive event was on our horizon. These sources were unconventional -- that is, they are intuitives or channels and sense the future through approaches and methods that are largely not understood by mainstream science...

    The Sky Is Falling

NASA Pressed To Avert Catastrophic Deep Impact

Current Near-Earth Asteroid Statistics & Research
posted on Thursday, September 20, 2007

There are between one and two million near-Earth objects (NEOs) -- chunks of space rock whose orbits may pass within 30 million miles of Earth -- that pose a significant impact threat to the planet. Of the 4,535 NEOs detected and tracked (704 of which are real whoppers), none are on a definite collision course, but there could be millions more, many of them potentially lethal, lurking in the cosmos.
