Here me out, the major toxic voting incentives can be fixed very easily:
If you receive a subsidy, welfare, handout from the govt of any kind, you automatically lose the right to vote. In no world does it make sense for people who receive benefit to get to vote for those who pay for it to have a greater, coerced obligation to them.

There still seems to be no serious recognition that a million of these things are the most powerful military tool imaginable.

For everyone getting on me about the OP_RETURN stuff:
I’m 100% open to being wrong, I was wrong about CTV and how I thought it could be maliciously used, but I’ve also only heard a handful of the exact same arguments about this issue for years and have been very clear why I don’t think they are sufficient and why I believe some of them are not even relevant.
• “Filters for what goes into the chain are censorship,” this is false and filtering what can be done on chain is literally how and why Bitcoin works in every way that it works. This completely begs the question about what is spam and what is an exploit, which is the whole debate.
• “You can get around it” isn’t relevant either, as standards make a difference, which is exactly why the discussion is around changing the standards. Same as someone can jump over my fence, but that doesn’t mean having one vs not being allowed to build one has no effect at all.
• “Your node doesn’t do anything,” Is the same argument I was told during the blocksize war. I’m aware it doesn’t alter the entirety of the network and it’s just my node, so don’t tell me like you’ve discovered some new information, but it is still *my* node and someone proposing to remove my control over what I should or should not accept and propagate isn’t why I run a node. I use my node to mine and wish to build my own templates. Explain how putting Bitcoins use as money ahead of as a place to store jpegs is bad. I don’t care how ineffective you think it is, but why is it bad for Bitcoin?
• “Just run Knots.” Correct, I will be now. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have an opinion about changes being made to core, and when feedback is asked for I’ll give you my honest opinion. If that bothers someone then being part of a decentralized protocol is probably not the best path for them. All anyone has done since I got into bitcoin was argue. That’s how decentralization works.
• “They paid a fee and it’s valid.” See point 1. Every bug and malicious transaction and spam in the past was always valid and paid the proper fee. Again, completely begs the question as to what is spam and what the highest purpose of Bitcoin is.
This is a conversation about the purpose of Bitcoin, and yes that’s subjective, but that doesn’t mean it’s arbitrary or it doesn’t matter. Convince me that allowing random data in unrestrained sizes will make Bitcoin better money, or the technical argument doesn’t matter, imo. Technical conversations matter only after we decide what is *worth* building technical solutions for and what the purpose of any technical change is… so again, it begs the question and comes back to the same old disagreement.
This is how I see it and I don’t see how this is at all an unreasonable perspective. Just my 2 sats

Bitcoin is about a system to protect and enforce a foundation of liberty for the world. I wouldn't fight for it otherwise. This is why there is no option for pessimism or defeatism. There is only what path we must take and what we have to build to win.

First, crypto has everyone confused because they think this is stocks of equity. When it’s actually a massive fundamental shift in how you can get a huge group of disagreeable, or even malicious people, to safely know that they all have consensus on the state of a network. And the most powerful use of that breakthrough is in money, which is just a record keeping system.
Second, that the history of the internet can largely be traced back to a tiny group of cryptographers and cypherpunks that kinda built every major protocol and tool we use today. It’s the greatest and least known group of people who basically made all of the internet as we know it possible. And the big vision was about how you could make a network of completely unreliable devices reliable, and how you could have open systems where any attacker can join, safe from the attackers with out needing a master, who could end up as the attacker themselves. These are insane problems that took decades to solve because it’s an entirely different way of thinking about how to create rules and security through openness rather than closed and permissioned access.
Third that there was a 20 year history of these cypherpunks trying to solve this problem already that most people have no clue about. 5 major project each solved one tiny piece of it, but couldn’t sustain an entire system, until Bitcoin.
Fourth he asked about mining and I gave him a short rundown of my analogy I used in a 6 minute video that I’m currently editing and have been working on for a few weeks. That went really well because I think it demonstrates extremely well that Bitcoin is not a little toy on the internet, but the most insanely secure digital record on earth. And I think that clicked so that he could “see” that if he owned some Bitcoin, it was well and truly his and there was nothing anyone could do about it. (Rather than explaining that again I’ll just get the video done)
Then he basically said “yeah I’ve been really thinking I need to look at it, but just had no idea how. I really probably just need to start buying some. Do you have some sort of “begin here” episode of your show?” And that was about it. Sounds like a lot but I’ve gotten really good at covering the big ideas pretty quickly. I managed to get through this in the course of a short appointment and I was surprised at the timing. I’m improving 🤣
The path I take is always different for different people though. I have to judge which topic is one likely to strike interest or be relevant to their way of looking at things. He was a doctor so I went the “internet history/system design” route and I think letting him see it as a groundbreaking system for making cheaters obsolete without anyone in charge was interesting for him to see. Luckily there’s about 100 different angles to come at the idea of bitcoins breakthrough, the difficulty is in knowing which path to take.

Economics, business, healthcare, nutrition, education, and then a list of hundreds of disciplines that are internal to each of those broader categories. Economics seems to be the worst by far, probably followed closely by healthcare and medicine. There could not be a more clear "report card" today showing the results of the two failed ideologies these are built on as well.

For sure, i don't lay blame anywhere, but there is a solution to those problems yet it seems that most aren't interested in building it because the people who can just seem to hand wave it with "just use Tor or run your own proxy server or whatever" seemingly without realizing that they just eliminated 99.935% of all their potential users and any chance of actually fixing the massive dependence on huge centralized server platforms for everything.
Its like the people who need it don't know what they need, and the people who know and can build it don't need to because they know how to do all the other super technical options. 🤔

Actually the opposite, but the network effect is difficult because payouts are far more consistent. They say that FPPS (the common model) only takes a couple of percent but it’s BS, the difference with OCEAN is significant, but the miners that join them have no incentive to share those details because the gap will shrink if a bunch more hash power joins 😆
But yes, I’ve heard that the payouts, although they only happen when blocks come in, are at worst a few percent higher on OCEAN, and most of the time it seems much better than that but don’t want to say a number and be wrong. I feel safe saying 5% higher payouts for hash isnt exaggerated.

Literally out in a bitcoin address and then .ocean.xyz (or whatever their URL is, it’s all on their website) into the miner login credentials and that’s it. They will pay to your address if you want to pool split. If you want to lottery/solo mine but want to change when it is that you get a payout. (You can actually choose your own odds with the pool) you can install DATUM and set a custom threshold lower than a full block. For instance you can set it for probability of finding a POW once a year, and earn $300 or something instead of 3 BTC.
But if you just want to mine with the pool in a standard way, it’s the address and ocean url which you can find easily on their site.
I should probably do a video on how to install DATUM honestly. It isn’t super hard but I don’t know of a full video breakdown anywhere, or I haven’t seen one at least. 🤔

Fired the old contractor after a year and a half of painful slog. Spent 2 weeks meeting and getting estimates on a dozen different things, and now planning to sign with a guy who literally has to gut most of what the previous “contractor” did and basically start over… and he says they will be in and out in 3 months.
So I’m out like $40k on the other asshole, but things are moving forward and we may actually have the bulk of our house together before summer is over, which would be amazing.

Tbh, I think humans just have a lot of barbaric forms of symbolism or abstract practices, and religion is just one of the many excuses for it or ways to “formalize” it.
The older I get the less I think “religion” is to blame for anything, because sure we circumcise potentially due to religious reasoning, but then the “non-religious” today literally hold up as an example of justice and pride for people to ingest chemicals that cause sterility and cancer and literally cut their entire genitals off and are mutilated to make a flesh mimicry of the opposing sexual organs or anatomy that is obviously non-functioning and results in life-long, irreversible complications for more than half of all operations… and this is actively encouraged and pushed onto children when they are afraid of puberty.
It isn’t really “religion,” imo, people can just be barbarians and the narratives for why we do it change over time. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I definitely wouldn’t call it the “greatest” but certainly up there.
It’s crazy that it’s strikingly similar to the old practice of cutting off little girls’ clitoris, and was started for similar reasons, but we just kept doing it and changing the excuse.
For those who don’t know, circumcision was started by the church solely because it prevented little boys from playing with their penis and masturbating at earlier years.
Centuries later doctors started saying it was “because inflections or something,” and everyone just ran with it because it was normal. We also get bacteria in all sorts of places, interesting that we don’t cut off any other body parts to fix those problems isn’t it? 🤔 I mean I get in grown nails every so often, maybe just rip out fingernails and toenails to prevent it from ever being a problem? And talk about bacteria!
Its purpose is and always has been to dry out the head of the penis, kill the nerves, and diminish sensation so that little boys won’t “sin.”

I think the lead example if far fetched because whether in tiny amounts or large amounts it’s explicitly toxic to human tissue. Whereas the problem with cereals and constant ingestion of grains is the ceaseless minor damage building up over very extended periods. It’s mostly that the body never has time to repair the inflammation. But also some people can handle much more than others and your genetics and where in the world your ancestors are from matter too. Some people have integrated certain foods for tens of thousands of years, some were only exposed within a few hundred years. I fully recognize the picture isn’t perfectly identical for everyone.

Also there is a great amount of evidence that a constant diet of that will very likely lead to chronic disorders, inflammation, and potentially cancer. But that doesn’t mean every single person who eats cereal gets cancer, and it certainly doesn’t mean that your other foods and lifestyle don’t change things. They clearly have an enormous effect.
Example, my friend’s grandmother smoked everyday until she was in her 90s and never got lung cancer. That wouldn’t be sufficient evidence that it’s fine for everyone to smoke everyday and there will be no consequences. I also ate cereal for much of my life until my mid twenties and never got cancer nor had a heart attack. But within weeks of drastically changing my diet away from foods like that, there were significant shifts, including a persistent full body “puffy ness” (inflammation) that I had never seen because I’d never corrected my diet for long enough to see it subside. My face literally looked different. My wife did the same and we can now see it in all of our old pictures. We can just look through pictures and know if it was before or after that period because our faces are just puffy.
That doesn’t mean the experience would be exactly the same for everyone, but we are constantly sold an absolute inversion of the truth when it comes to diet. We are told to eat grains, vegetables, and fibers when we get almost no nutrients from these things, can’t digest much of them, and they produce bad cholesterols, have bad oils, and carry tons of toxins. While simple animals oils, meat, good cholesterols, and healthy fats are not only not encouraged, but actively attacked.
We’ve done exactly what has been suggested by our “health professionals,” yet we are drowning in chronic disease, inflammation and are horribly unhealthy. The results speak for themselves, imo.
It would also seem to me to be backward for someone to be bothered about hearing that foods that are actually healthy… are in fact healthy - even if exaggerated to the importance. Especially when what amount to flat lies about the same topic are broadcast from every direction, pushed by much of the medical establishment, and repeated as gospel at every commercial break all day long. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Maybe be bothered by that as well considering what it has done to our country? 🤔 Worth considering which one to focus on, imo.

There would be a hierarchy based on how much value you were protecting, and even at $500 fees per standard TX most middle class would be able to secure their savings and/retirement very easily if risk was rising. Normal people have spent literally all last week losing or closing with multi thousand dollar losses or fees to exit positions or move their retirements to safety. Bitcoin in the worst case would give them such an unbelievably greater degree of security and sovereignty in that scenario that there’s virtually no way the extended effects of its attributes could create the same conditions as gold.
What it really means is that on chain ends up largely for retirements and savings protection, channels or pooled transaction L2s are for wage and important payments and provenance, L3 and custodians are for fun features and low value daily payments. And this explicitly means that all of the largest and most important value is easy to protect, and the stuff at risk is explicitly low value.
Bitcoin and gold scale in completely opposite ways. Gold and precious metals work great in small transactions and is complete trash for huge transactions. Bitcoin on-chain is uneconomical for small transactions but incomparable for large transactions and settlement.
This is not the threat it’s made out to be. And I think it’s because of how few people understand gold and why it failed.

If I come up with a cool idea for a new tool, and then someone else takes their own resources, time, and energy to build a similar tool, then there is no way I’m NOT the one who is horribly immoral by sending armed thugs to their property, and destroying and stealing the results of their work.
You cannot own an idea. The very purpose of an idea is to share and communicate it. And everyone is richer for it.
This is the entire idea behind open source and why it remains so successful and such a foundational part of the digital economy.
And all you need is contract law. You do not need copyright law in order for something that is like copyright in practice to naturally emerge within networks.
Either way I agree, radical change is needed to the structure of laws around intellectual property. I say this as a filmmaker, storyteller, and media creator.
There are many more models than, “send government goons to attack anyone who copies my work or uses my ideas for their benefit.”

I think many have misunderstood how Bitcoin restores the market of trust. The goal isn’t to remove all trust and have distrusted adversarial conditions in every market interaction. To the contrary, society is *built on* trust.
Corrupted money erodes trust between entities that are **actually being honest.** that’s the real problem, is that if you and I trust each other, we are still getting screwed by a third party abusing OUR trust for their benefit. Trustless money allows us to have control over our trusted networks and interactions again. It lets you and I do business without being subject to anyone else.
In short, trust is not a bad thing. A trustless foundation lets us build long term relationships of trust with better paths back to safety when things go wrong, and better control over who we associate with and accept risk on behalf of. It allows us to properly VALUE trust.

The system we have today is the one where artists and original creators get next to nothing and studios, lawyers, and publishers get practically everything and manage to retain ownership of work they didn’t create and invention they didn’t invent basically indefinitely.
Maybe consider that the law that you *believe* protects them, doesn’t actually do that, when the real world results suggest that the creators aren’t who the law benefits. 🤔

As we adopt sound money the stock market will experience a slow continuous crash. It’s bloated and subsidized. It never made sense for the middle/lower class retirements & savings to be put at risk by massive corporations and financial institutions.
Sound money will make the stock market unimportant in the average person’s life.

I always said “crypto” was self defeating, utility coins make no sense, and the mantra of “you need to diversify” meant they lost before even getting started. They were playing with tech in a game of money.
If you sell yourself on “the tech” then you are easily replaced by the “next tech.” So many people would tell me “CaRdAnO iS tHE bItCoiN kiLLeR” and my thought was always, “no it’s the Ethereum killer, and neither are even half a threat to Bitcoin because you are both thinking about this completely backward.”
The more time goes by the more this will show in the markets.
Anyone can build some software that’s fancier than the last guy’s, but no one can just make a more trustworthy money.
Monetary trust is earned over long periods, slow growth, and hard fought battles. The people who thought this was about “diversifying” and “adding as many cool features as possible” were destined to lose before they even started.
