Published: Friday, March 16, 2007Twenty-six Juno-nominated acts will be among the 100-plus bands performing at JunoFest on Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31.
Fifteen venues will host the event -- including six on Broadway Avenue alone, which will make for a busy night on the street. Acts are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
The Bassment boasts the highest concentration of nominees with six, including native son and New York heavyweight Jon Ballantyne playing at 1 a.m. on the Friday.
Blues and acoustic guitar fans will enjoy the Broadway Theatre's lineup: David Gogo, Joel Fafard, African Guitar Summit, Colin Linden and Blackie and the Rodeo Kings -- all Juno nominees -- in addition to Jack Semple, Shaun Verreault and Wil.
The African Guitar Summit played an "over sold-out" show a month ago at the theatre, and people were literally dancing in the aisles, said Phyllis Cameron, Broadway Theatre manager.
"We're really happy and excited to be part of JunoFest. It sounds like a really good-time lineup."
Canadian Idol fans at Bud's on Broadway will be able to judge the performance of Sass Jordan, who plays at midnight on the Friday, following Little Miss Higgins and Casey Stone and preceding Juno nominee Jim Byrnes.
Idol finalist and Saskatoon sweetheart Theresa Sokyrka plays The Refinery at midnight on the Friday. As well, there's Idol alumnus Josh Palmer at the Roxy on Broadway on the Saturday.
Darren Minisofer at the Roxy is glad to see Jordan Cook on his Friday lineup, calling him Saskatoon's best-kept secret. Cook ends a night started by the Ultimate Power Duo, Smokekiller and Tupelo Honey.
Animals lovers may want to check out Walkers' Saturday lineup: The Musty Steers, Lions in the Street and Sheepdogs are there. Of course, there's also Barney Bentall and the Grand Cariboo Opry at Lydia's Pub at 1 a.m. on the Saturday, known to attract Bentall's musical friends such as Jim Cuddy.
The fine print: Attendees must by 19 and older to attend.
Admission is by a $25 wristband -- available at www.ticketmaster.ca or by calling 938-7800 -- which offers "priority entry," or $10 tickets at the door.
The schedule is still subject to change.
