I think they could really remaster the SFX of Star Trek V. I know that the film has a list of problems that cannot be changed, but the 'special' effects (lifeless and crude compared to those of STIV and VI) are certainly not on this list.
Totally agreed. Why on Earth do they want to "remastered" this show?? The original effects looked perfect for a series made in the 1960s, Star Trek really doesn't need to be CGI-ized for the teenage popcorn buffs. BTW the "remastered" effects look much worse in motion onscreen than these high resolution screenshots (oh, well... advertising...).
Awesome!! Thank you so very much for the compilation here of the updates. I own all the original series and have yet to see any of the remasters, but this is truly amazing! They must have done it to get in the right frame of mind for the upcoming movie release (which I am anticipating with great expectations).

Well I am all for these improved SFX! I wanna know is when do we get to see them? have they been screened in the US? no sign of them here in the UK as yet
Yep...they are showing them every sunday night. Actually they show 2 back to back. One is a repeat from the week before. They really make the old star trek like new again. The special effects add so much more that I would have thought. I like it.
I don't get all the people who think that the remastered effects are stupid and wrong. You always have the option of watching it in 60's effects, but for people who never got the chance to before, or who want it to reach even greater potential, we have the remastered version. It's rejuvenation, not rape.
I must say though at the time the original effects were astounding, way ahead of their time. And that was what star trek was all about. It influenced so many shows and inventors of gadgets we're all used to and take for granted in the 21'st century. Plain and simple, well done mr roddenberry and thanks from all of us.
tbh the only one I don't like is the shuttle bay scenes, they look way too CG. love the music though, TMP as I recall. and what's with the additional Klingon/Romulan ships?
1) All CGI looks unreal. Doesn't matter how flashy it is.
2) Old tv shows are perfect in their perceived imperfection, as already said here.
