Content management vs. overload Keys to collaboration and control of information resources online Syndication - understanding of RSS Aggregation - add to above, understanding of tagging Mashup - Putting it together in reusable learning objects This presentation Explains these concepts in terms accessible to educators Describes how the concepts were applied in Writingmatrix: a worldwide collaboration project
Syndication --> Aggregation --> Mashup blogs listservs podcasts online journals online newsfeeds Technorati searches RSS feeds generated by
Syndication --> Aggregation --> Mashup Bloglines or Google Reader Pageflakes and any of these can be subscribed to in

Writingmatrix: Introduction Initially involved bloggers in Argentina Venezuela Slovenia Who utilized tagging social networking tools to enable the students to locate each other's blogs interact with selected individuals thus identified as being of similar age and interests. http://writingmatrix.wikispaces.com
Writingmatrix: Technique To achieve this, Students are encouraged to blog their interests and concerns tag relevant posts with an identifier unique to the project Technorati then used to identify the posts of participants in other countries http://technorati.com/search/writingmatrix?authority=n&language=en http://screencast.com/t/M33ixayEN2J
Writingmatrix: Outcomes Students are motivated to form writing partnerships Spontaneously without prior collaboration in projects set by teachers collaborating in the project A final aspect of the project is to have students explore areas of mutual interest through tagging some of their and each other's posts in Del.icio.us, then discern who else is reading and tagging their posts

Abundance in teacher professional development: More than meets the eye by Vance Stevens, has 39 slides with 1458 views.Learning2gether episode 340 presented Sun Aug 7 noon UTC Vance Stevens at MMVC16 - Moodle Moot Virtual Conference This Learning2gether Episode #340 is one of many online PD opportunities that are taking place literally as we speak, and if this is a representative moment, this extrapolates to an abundance of PD opportunities online at any given moment. Abundance implies e.g. free, easily accessible, available as per user interest in the manner of a berry bush. But institutional PD is often approached from a mindset of scarcity, meaning it is time-bound, tied to brick and mortar, and often driven top-down. This presentation will help viewers visualize the abundance in a way that this perspective can be shared with whomever is driving your PD through a scarcity paradigm.

Learning2gether with EVO Minecraft MOOC and Gamification of Teacher Professio... by Vance Stevens, has 34 slides with 5015 views. This presentation is about a correspondence between two EVO (Electronic Village Online) sessions: 1) the EVO Minecraft MOOC (EVOMC16) and 2) Techno-CLIL (content and language integrated) approach to language development. There is much evidence that Minecraft can enhance language development; for example, the cases discussed in in an article by co-moderators of the EVOMC16 session (Smolčec & Smolčec, 2014). This presentation will suggest to educators interested in adopting the CLIL approach how they might consider Minecraft as a representation of content, and see how language development might derive from interaction in a gamified environment based on that content.

Challenges in Migrating Imperative Deep Learning Programs to Graph Execution:... by Raffi Khatchadourian, has 1 slides with 94 views.Efficiency is essential to support responsiveness w.r.t. ever-growing datasets, especially for Deep Learning (DL) systems. DL frameworks have traditionally embraced deferred execution-style DL code that supports symbolic, graph-based Deep Neural Network (DNN) computation. While scalable, such development tends to produce DL code that is error-prone, non-intuitive, and difficult to debug. Consequently, more natural, less error-prone imperative DL frameworks encouraging eager execution have emerged at the expense of run-time performance. While hybrid approaches aim for the "best of both worlds," the challenges in applying them in the real world are largely unknown. We conduct a data-driven analysis of challenges---and resultant bugs---involved in writing reliable yet performant imperative DL code by studying 250 open-source projects, consisting of 19.7 MLOC, along with 470 and 446 manually examined code patches and bug reports, respectively. The results indicate that hybridization: (i) is prone to API misuse, (ii) can result in performance degradation---the opposite of its intention, and (iii) has limited application due to execution mode incompatibility. We put forth several recommendations, best practices, and anti-patterns for effectively hybridizing imperative DL code, potentially benefiting DL practitioners, API designers, tool developers, and educators.

Hybridize Functions: A Tool for Automatically Refactoring Imperative Deep Lea... by Raffi Khatchadourian, has 1 slides with 142 views.Efficiency is essential to support responsiveness w.r.t. ever-growing datasets, especially for Deep Learning (DL) systems. DL frameworks have traditionally embraced deferred execution-style DL code—supporting symbolic, graph-based Deep Neural Network (DNN) computation. While scalable, such development is error-prone, non-intuitive, and difficult to debug. Consequently, more natural, imperative DL frameworks encouraging eager execution have emerged but at the expense of run-time performance. Though hybrid approaches aim for the “best of both worlds,” using them effectively requires subtle considerations to make code amenable to safe, accurate, and efficient graph execution—avoiding performance bottlenecks and semantically inequivalent results. We discuss the engineering aspects of a refactoring tool that automatically determines when it is safe and potentially advantageous to migrate imperative DL code to graph execution and vice-versa.
