Wong: Adapt to local culture in overseas ventures
PETALING JAYA: No two countries share the same business environment and it is essential that businessmen understand and adapt to local cultures and practices when venturing into new territory.
Eva Wong, chairperson and president of China-based Top Human Technology Ltd, said the nature of businesses would generally be the same, but the environment and local cultures demanded different approaches.
By understanding the local culture and changing one's attitude or method of operations and management to adapt to the local culture would help companies to successfully integrate their business into the new environment, she said at a talk organised by The Star and the Asian Centre for Media Studies yesterday.
The one-hour talk titled, The New Generation Of CEOs & Entrepreneurs Of China: How They Are Changing The Way China Does Business And How Malaysian Entrepreneurs Could Engage Them, was held at Menara Star's Cybertorium.
The Hong Kong native spoke about the Ren Coaching Model, which she jointly developed with Top Human chief executive officer Lawrence Leung. As the name suggests, the model puts people at its core.
Our approach to coaching is unique in the way it fuses international practices with traditional Chinese thinking, she said, adding that the coaching model integrated the ideas of the East and West.
