Why do I get a message "Unable to export bin"?
Why do I get a message "Unable to export bin"?
There can be several reasons:
- If you change the frame size or other setting and then use an Avid codec to export a QuickTime movie, you cannot do a fast export or import since the codec might issue the error message "Unable to export bin". Avid codecs are designed to provide a fast export or import at the native frame size. (If necessary, you can change the resolution, but the export will take longer.)
Please use a different codec.
Alternatively, export the file by selecting the "Same as Source" option and change the setting in another application, such as Cleaner 5.
- If you attempt to export a sequence with 24 or more unrendered effects to QuickTime and have "Same as Source" selected, the following Exception appears: "Unable to export bin Exception: Movie export from procedures FAILED!, errcode:-115"
Please render all the effects before you export.
- You will get the message "Unable to export bin. Exception: the quicktime movie could not be made fast start" when the file size of the sequence breaks the 2 GB file size limitation.
Please break up the seq into sub sequences. Also try a lower resolution if you can't find a spot in the sequence to break it up.
- While attempting to export a .pct file (single frame or sequential frames), you might get the message "Unable to Export the bin Exception disk access {file name} (single pct file name) MAC ERROR 5000, incorrect access for this file/folder"
You could try to perform a video mixdown of the sequence and export the mixdown master clip. If that doesn't work, there may be corruption in the sequence, the User Setting or the Project Settings. Quit the current project, create a New User Setting and a New Project Setting, import Avid supplied Color bars, export one frame as a .pct file to the Desktop. If the process works, change one variable at a time (User, Project, new media) until you find which one was corrupted.
- You could get the message when trying to export a sequence, not a bin, to the desktop.
The reason could be that the internal drive is full. Delete some items on the internal disk to get space for the export. It could also come up when trying to export to a media partion.

The message "unable to export bin, Exception Movie export procedure FAILED, errcode -8960" appears with Media Composer 10.0.1, 10.0.2 and 10.0.3 (Mac and NT and the corresponding Symphony and Xpress versions) when trying to do a QT export with the Avid Codec and changing the size in the "Format options" under "size" or via the "Video Format-Size" Option in the export window to something different than 720x576 in a PAL project. It doesn't matter if choosing a value from the drop down menu in the "Video Format" section of the options window or if setting an individual size. The export only works with standard size 720x576 from a PAL project. This behavior is different from the 8.x, 9.x versions. There it was possible to change the size for Avid Codec exports.

The message "Unable To Export The Bin; Exception: SYS_Error. Mac Error -38 (file not open) File: A application.c, Line: 2522" occurs while exporting a pict sequence in 7.01. Export will stop approx. half way through the export and give: "Unable To Export The Bin; Exception: SYS_Error". This happens with a multiple clip sequence, but will work fine with a single clip. After this error occurs, trying to quit out of Media Composer gives the error: "Error Occured During Exit Method Mac Error -38 (file not open) File: A application.c, Line: 2522"
This has been fixed with Media Composer 7.1.
