kingston hinging

After nearly 25 years of innovations, Brewer Cantelmo has modified the portfolio book into a sophisticated personalized presentation tool. Kingston hinging is the technique used to solve an issue surrounding the portfolio book – or any other product with screw post binding.  The palm tree effect of pages sitting in binding means that pages do not lay flat when the book is opened. Pages on either side of the binding tend to have a bulge.  Kingston hinging is the solution to this problem.

Normally, pages will have a slight curve to them since the 3/4" edge in the binding is pointing directly up while the rest of the page is at 90 degrees.  However, when we hinge a 1 1/2" piece of cloth onto the edge of your page or your sheet protector, the page will lie flat. The structure of the cloth being different from that of the pages or sheet protectors and being more flexible permits the pages to lay perfectly flat.  Hinges may be black, white, or any other cloth color that we offer – and may be applied to the front of the page, back of the page, or both sides of the page depending on the intended look.

Each cloth hinge is applied by hand and while the process is quick, pages do need to dry at least overnight so we suggest 3-4 days for the turnaround time.

(please note: if you have 2 page "spreads", with Kingston hinging there will be a 3" stripe of cloth between images)

When hinging sheet protectors, only polyester, acetate or vinyl may be hinged, not bc lites.
