WCI Language Translator 2.0 Review

A built-in language translator is something I've always thought would be a useful add-on to Windows Mobile. I mean what better way to "integrate" and unify your user base than to provide a simple, effective ability to translate mobile content into multiple languages on the fly? It would tear down a significant barrier to global information sharing for sure.

Great New Mobile Portals

Topics:

There’s a world of content out there on the Internet, as you well know, and it doesn’t always come conveniently packaged for the small screen of your device. Mobile portals have been a real boon, and this week I want to tell you about some new ones that deserve a look.

GTS World Racing iPhone Version Review!

I don't usually write game reviews, as I'd rather play them than write about them. I have also thus far resisted the urge to write about or buy an iPhone. When I caught a video of this game on YouTube (running on an iPhone), I did a double-take. The player was controlling it by tilting the phone around, which is so friggin cool, it hurts! Since I don't own an iPhone, I had to figure out a way I could get a look at it up close without, ahem, completely going over to the dark side (at least not yet).

Finger Stylus Roundup

The stylus is an integral part of every touch screen Pocket PC.  Over the years there have been numerous styles of styli – including cheap plastic, solid metal, as well as compact telescoping models.  Newer devices, such as the iPhone, have been designed to be used with a finger instead of a stylus.  This is

Multiplatform Gaming News (08/30/2008)

1. (WinMo, desktop Windows): The creators of Shadow of Legend, a really promising multiplayer (!!) MMORPG I’ve several times reported on, have announced (see http://www.shadowoflegend.com/web/News.aspx?ID=452 ) the forthcoming, vastly enhanced 2.5D version of their game.

The Week In Games: Firetop Adventure

Firetop Adventure is yet another platform scroller (seems like there's been a lot of those lately). This time the story is a little spooky: your job is to root out an evil entity that's turning harmless creatures into hideous monsters. Although FA is still a little cartoonish, it does have an advantage over its purely run-and-jump competition in that it gives you weapons against enemies, lets you blast through walls with bombs (my favorite), and has some interesting puzzles.

The Multiplatform Podcasting / Podcatching Bible

Listening to or watching podcasts is great fun. If you think they are boring, meaningless or can’t entertain you during, say, a long fight, you’re wrong. For example, watching all the clips of X-Play, played back on my VGA HP iPAQ 214 (thanks to Smartphone & PPCMag / iPhone Life’s Hal Goldstein for the gift!) could entertain me for long-long hours.

Final Issue of Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine

Topics:

After 11 years, we will be publishing a final 2008 issue of Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine and then suspend publication! We are working hard to make it the best Windows Mobile issue ever, a keeper, a reference guide. In 2009 we will publish Smartphone magazine’s iPhone Life. Below, I’ve attempted to answer questions that have been asked of me:

HTC Touch Diamond/Pro coming from Sprint, Verizon

Rumors are about that Verizon and Sprint will be offering the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro. Plus, there’s a great video on YouTube of the amazing Touch Pro interface. This week we’ll also note a few reviews of the new HP iPAQ 910 and leaked information about the Treo 850.

PREVIEW & CHART: The Multiplatform Podcasting / Podcatching Bible

It was a long time ago that Smartphone & Pocket PC Mag discussed Doppler on desktop. Neither are other articles (like Podcasts on a PDA...) up-to-date either, let alone covering all the current podcasting / podcatching solutions for all the three mobile operating systems I (currently – don’t forget I’ll also support iPhone when I get it!) support: that is, Windows Mobile, Blackberry and Symbian S60.

Also, this week we’ll note an update of Windows Live for Windows Mobile and discuss various opportunities for downloading software, including freeware, directly to your device.
