Background Papers Critical Reviews
In preparation for an initial workshop pin June 2004, six Critical Reviews were commissioned. The purpose of these reviews was to provide an analytically rigorous assessment of the existing literature and its contribution to informing policy design and implementation, while also providing direction for future analytical work. Each review was prepared by a three-person team, consisting of a China-trained Chinese researcher, a Chinese-speaking researcher trained abroad but with research experience on China's health system, and a researcher from outside China chosen for their international expertise in and general knowledge of the topic. The teams were asked to assemble and review both the Chinese-language and English-language literature on their assigned topics. The focus was largely on China's experience, but the reviews also set this experience in the broader international context. - China's Social Protection Schemes and Access to Health Services: A Critical Review (308kb pdf)

Monthly Research and News Digests
As part of the China Rural Health study, monthly digests covering both academic research and newspaper publications have been prepared. These digests provide an overview of new English-language research on the Chinese health sector, as well as coverage of health issues in the international and Chinese press. A number of "special issues" were also prepared to outline research and news coverage of specific topics.
