Lavaun Heaster lives in PortlandOregon, . She has lived with Type I diabetes since the age of 9 and has faced the challenge of managing her health responsibly for many years now. In spite of the fact that diabetes claimed much of her eyesight 15 years ago and now being on peritoneal dialysis, Lavaun leads a very active life. Social dancing and cooking for others are her great passions. Until recently, Lavaun worked as a fulltime social services professional—helping to improve health outcomes for diverse communities and individuals. Having found ways to stay positive while living with a chronic condition for so long made it easy for Lavaun to relate to other peoples needs. For many years now she has served her community as a volunteer serving worthy causes and those in need.
Now Lavaun herself is in need (of financial assistance) as she goes through dialysis and faces the prospect of a kidney/pancreas transplant.
Currently Lavaun is receiving her medical care through the Kaiser Permanente system and her dialysis at DSI. Her Kidney-Pancreas transplant will be performed at University of California San Francisco Hospital. After multiple surgeries and complications related to dialysis in the past year Lavaun has finally made it on to the waiting list and the surgeons feel she is an excellent candidate because of her proactive attitude and good overall health. Lavaun is raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with her kidney/pancreas transplant. of California San Francisco
