The rules of conduct signs were gone, leaving only marred paint and screw holes behind.
This is the main entry by at the food court. Notice the two blue dots? Those are plastic anchors where the sign used to be.
This is over by Dick's and JC Penney. Notice the marred paint in the shape of a sign?

The signs at the Friday's and Panera entrances were also missing, leaving marred paint behind. Security was thicker, so no pics.
I did ask one nice security guard about the sign by Panera. His response was interesting...
"Yeah, there was a rules of conduct sign there, but they took it down. Not sure why, but they just took it down."
Curiouser and curiouser, eh Freedom Fiends?
On the upside, at least I wasn't breaking the rules about photos in the mall!!!
BTW: I also stopped by Oak View (the crosstown sister mall under the same management) and took better pics of their rules of conduct sign. I'll update that post next.
Stay safe;

I just hope they are not writing "NO GUNS" in bigger letters on the new signs.
Are signs like this away from entrances legally binding there if there isn't proof they were read? Ohio states something like "businesses may post conspicuous sings at each entrance", and has a "knowingly " clause. If we read a sign like that in the middle of the mall we have to obey, but if we don't read it, we can still carry legally.
Sevesteen, it is my understanding that they can ask you to leave for not having read the sign and potentially prosecute...
Regardless, no sign, I guess I'd carry if I were there. After all, there's nothing that says you can't...
The removal tells me that they're figuring they are gonna get sued, so they're trying for some damage control. Here's what I want you to do - NOW: Fire off press releases to EVERY local newspaper, radio and tv station, along with the major national media, about how the mall has removed the signs. If you need a hand writing the stuff, bogie@creativeaccuracy.com. FWIW, I know a few of the bloggers on your list, some actually face-to-face...
Sevesteen, that is like saying I never saw the 25mph sign in a school zone. Even though you know it is. Ignorance of the law isn't an excuse.
But what is the law there? That is what Sevesteen was asking.
The law in Nebraska is that someone with a concealed carry permit can carry in most places (schools, bars, excepted) UNLESS the property owners post a sign banning it. So no sign = legal to carry at a mall.
Sevesteen, et. al;
The law in Nebraska gives those signs the weight of law, unlike other states where it means management can ask you to leave.
If caught carrying in a posted place, you will lose your permit. Likely lose your pistol purchase permit (required to buy in the state) and have a gun crime on the record.
Otherwise, there is a state list of off-limits places that includes: Colleges, schools, courts, jails, hospitals, bars, police stations, etc.
Our signs have some weight of law, but with lots of wiggle room. It is a simple trespassing charge and not a gun crime, and rules we don't know about don't count.
If a rule posted in a a back hall, or on a bulletin board somewhere counts to get a license holder busted, there's a severe problem with the law. (Ohio has our share of stupid CCW laws, so I won't be entirely surprised if that is the case)
Has anyone contaced General Growth Properties (Westroads owner) to ask why these signs have come down?
The are probably adding "No assualt rifles" to the mall rules signs????
Chris - I have emailed the mall asking about the signs and have not received a reply. I am tempted to stop out there tonight to check to see if the signs are still down, or if they are back up, or back up and modified.
They took them down because they didn't want any embarrassing photos of them showing up. They'll be back after a brief vacation.
I emailed General Growth a day ago as well. Still no response. I won't be holding my breath.
