Brian McLaren at TransFORM

A couple of weeks back, Brian McLaren talked to a room full of missionally-minded church planters and lay people at the TransFORM East Coast Conference (which was free by the way).

I thought it was a great message and well worth sharing here.

I know some may disagree with Brian and his theology but he still comes at it very humbly — and I admire and appreciate that about him.

A couple of the take home points for me that I shared with a few of you right after the conference…

To have a church service with good preaching and good music is hard work — but understand that the reason that’s done is to bring people in and to give them a vision of the Kingdom of God. So that our lives then become bent towards being agents of the Kingdom of God….

When you say how do we do church — after you get the vision of the Kingdom of God and a vision of doing justice — doing church is a whole lot more exciting.

That’s a great reminder for me as we get ready to find our next community of faith in Forney — regardless of where we end up.

He also continues with a great take on what I’ve been talking about with several people offline for the past couple weeks…

People want to be a part of a community of faith where they don’t have to hate others in order to take part.

“You can have a Christian community of faith and be beneficial to Muslims, atheists and others.”

Huge props to Steve Knight for organizing the TransFORM East Coast event and posting these videos online!

I’ve heard loads of good things about the conference and wish I could have been there.
