Six injured in MIDC blast
NAGPUR: Workers at a steel casting company had a narrow escape on Monday morning after a gas cylinder feeding fuel to a furnace exploded. Six persons received injuries in the incident, and were rushed to a private hospital by their colleagues.
Two of the injured had to be admitted in the intensive care unit. Sources said the intensity of the blast caused damage to the interior of the factory, where iron was smelted.
The blast also triggered a fire inside the unit. The workers, who were just beginning the day’s work, did not get enough time to take shelter and hence suffered injuries.
Fire tenders from the local fire stations also rushed to the place after receiving information of the blast. The injured have been identified as Ramavatar Singh (43), Ratan Singh Dhumketu (31), Vasudeo Ram (44), Brijesh Kumar (20), Rana Singh (35) and Omprakash Singh (37). The MIDC cops were informed about the accident by the private hospital where the injured were rushed. The cops then visited the site of the blast to begin investigations. The cops are likely to book the owners of the factory after initial investigations.
