    Report: Lies, Lies, Lies
The Bush Administration, members of Congress from both parties, and the corporate media are engaged in a campaign of demonization against the people of Iran. Read the report here.

    Download a Petition
The petition reads: We demand an end to Washington’s campaign of intimidation, sanctions, and demonization against the people of Iran. The Bush Administration justified the war against the people of Iraq with outright lies. Now it is repeating those same lies to justify attacks on Iran. We oppose any new U.S. aggression against Iran. We need funds for human needs, not endless war for empire. Click here to download the petition.

    Send an Email to Bush
Please join the online campaign to STOP THE WAR ON IRAN BEFORE IT STARTS! YOUR EMERGENCY ACTION IS NEEDED NOW! Send emails to President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary of State Rice, U.N. Secretary-General Ki-moon, Congressional leaders and the media demanding NO WAR ON IRAN! Click here to send an email.

    After Downing Street

    Sign a Petition
The petition begins: We write to you from all over the United States and all over the world to urge you to obey both international and U.S. law, which forbid aggressive attacks on other nations. We oppose your proposal to attack Iran. Iran does not possess nuclear weapons, just as Iraq did not possess nuclear weapons. If Iran had such weapons, that would not justify the use of force, any more than any other nation would be justified in launching a war against the world's greatest possessor of nuclear arms, the United States. Due to geographical constraints, many of us cannot be present in this hearing, but hope that this letter will be among the testimonies that will be read to address the human rights crisis in Iran. Oil & Nukes: The Political Economy of the Iran Crisis
A Left Forum panel with Tom O’Donnell, Evrand Abrahamian, & Fatemeh Moghadam. A discussion of the growing dangers of war with Iran and the political and economic forces behind the rhetoric driving both sides. Speakers emphasize the role of long-term oil development plans among neo-conservatives that point to the likelihood of a U.S. war on Iran. Also discussed are Iran’s internal politics and how a collusion of miscalculations by both sides poses a threat of war. An historic overview of Iran’s politics and economy is also presented. Filmed in March 2006. Click here to buy the DVD.

Report: Why Bush Will Nuke Iran
“The neoconservative Bush administration will attack Iran with tactical nuclear weapons, because it is the only way the neocons believe they can rescue their goal of US (and Israeli) hegemony in the Middle East.” Read this report from Paul Craig Roberts here.

Report: Does Bush Think War with Iran Is Preordained?
The Christian right sees an apocalyptic nuclear war with Iran as a vision set forth in the Bible. Bush himself may be a believer, too. Read the report from Chris Hedges here.

Talking Points: Opposing the Iraq Supplemental & Iran Threats
The Congressional resolution passed last week gives Bush another $100 billion to continue the U.S. occupation of Iraq. That much is now guaranteed. The timelines and restrictions included in the bill – clearly responding to the strong public support for ending the war— were weakened almost to the disappearing point to allow the razor-thin vote. Very few of those toothless restrictions will likely make it into the final bill that must survive a super-majority in the Senate, a House-Senate conference committee, and a likely Bush veto. Click here to read the talking points from Phyllis Bennis.

Report: Escalating Threats of U.S. Attacks Against Iran
Even the New York Times has editorialized that the Bush administration is "bullying" Iran. Noting that "the one tactic the administration is refusing to consider is diplomacy," the Times warned that Bush "could end up talking himself into another disastrous war, and if Congress is not clear in opposing him this time, he could drag the country along." The temperature of anti-Iranian rhetoric is escalating rapidly, particularly since Bush's January speech on Iraq and his State of the Union address. While U.S. antagonism towards Iran is an old story, the particular timing of the current escalation is linked to the ever-clearer failure of U.S. strategy in Iraq. Click here to read the report.

Report: Treat Iran War Like Contras War
In 1982, angered by a White House secretly escalating an unpopular war in Central America, the House passed the Boland Amendment, a rider to the Defense Appropriations Act of 1983. The amendment was crafted by Massachusetts Congressman Edward Boland, and was designed to cut off funds the CIA and other intelligence agencies were using to carry out sabotage attacks in Nicaragua and to support the anti-government Contra guerrillas. The Senate had a Republican majority at the time, but even members of President Reagan’s own party were outraged when he launched his Contra-backing warfare without even notifying Congressional oversight committees. Lobby Your Congressperson
As part of coalition efforts to prevent a US military attack on, above, in or around Iran, we are calling for "In-District Lobby Days" during the upcoming Congressional recess from May 28-June 1, 2007, during which time, members of Congress will be in their home districts. This presents an effective opportunity for grassroots activists to meet with their members of Congress. On this page we've prepared a tool kit including information on how to schedule a meeting, talking points, tips for successful lobby visit, and a meeting debriefing form. PBS Special: Talking to Iran
President Bush has declared Iran to be part of the "Axis of Evil" and administration officials have said no options -- including military options -- are off the table in the effort to stop Iran from building a nuclear weapon. In the midst of this standoff between Washington and Tehran, some U.S. religious leaders are trying to succeed where politicians and diplomats cannot. Producer Jamila Paksima revisits her birth country of Iran with American spiritual leaders hoping to promote dialogue on such explosive issues as nuclear proliferation, the Iraq war, and the holocaust. Watch the video here.

U.S. and Iran fact sheet: A Time to Talk
The rejection of President Ahmadinejad’s hardline party in Iran’s December elections and the Supreme Leader’s allowing criticism of Ahmadinejad’s harsh rhetoric in the Iranian media are both good signs of an opening for a change of course in U.S.-Iranian relations. After decades of diplomatic hubris, and with myriad common concerns, it’s time for the U.S. to engage Iran through real diplomacy - not the bullying and saber-rattling that has recently characterized U.S. policy in the region. Click here to see a fact sheet on Iran.

    Polls on Iran
Take a look at the CNN polls conducted on May 4-6, 2007 here.

Sign a Petition The petition reads: Resistance to a Bush planned military strike on Iran is growing in Congress, but it needs your help! Sign the petition to Congress below - No War with Iran! House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said recently that she would introduce legislation to stop such a strike, so our demand is beginning to get through. But the pressure needs to be much, much stronger to stop a President who has apparently gone mad with war and his own power. Sign the petition here.

Antiwar Radio: Scott Horton Interviews Gareth Porter

Report: Iran and North Korea Will Not Be Denied Nukes
The Bush administration may live in a bubble of "unreality" regarding its foreign policy in Iraq, but neoconservatives inhabit a parallel universe on Iran. Unbelievably, despite the fact that the U.S. quagmire in Iraq has greatly weakened the U.S. position vis-à-vis Iran, the neocons are pushing for military action against that theocratic regime. According to the New York Times, David Wurmser, one of Vice President Dick Cheney's principal advisers, told conservative groups of Cheney's assertion that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's diplomatic effort to shut down Iran's nuclear program was faltering. Cheney further asserted that by the spring of 2008 President Bush might have to decide whether to use military force against that nation, according to the report. Read the report here.

Report: Accusations Pave Way for Assault on Iran
Sometimes it really is déjà vu all over again. Those who have hoped for a peaceful resolution of the outstanding issues between the United States and Iran must have been discouraged to watch the June 5 Republican presidential candidates' debate. With the honorable exception of Ron Paul, the Republicans lined up firmly in support of a policy to stop Iran's acquisition of a nuclear weapon using whatever means are necessary to do so, including the American nuclear arsenal. All except Paul derided Iran as the main source of terrorism in the world. Rudy Giuliani repeated the now familiar "you shouldn't take any options off the table" when asked about the possible use of nuclear weapons against Iran and stated that he even opposes Iran's acquisition of "nuclear power." Just Foreign Policy

Iran Proposal to U.S. Offered Peace with Israel
Iran offered in 2003 to accept peace with Israel and to cut off material assistance to Palestinian armed groups and pressure them to halt terrorist attacks within Israel's 1967 borders, according to the secret Iranian proposal to the United States. The two-page proposal for a broad Iran-U.S. agreement covering all the issues separating the two countries, a copy of which was obtained by IPS, was conveyed to the United States in late April or early May 2003. Trita Parsi, a specialist on Iranian foreign policy at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies who provided the document to IPS, says he got it from an Iranian official earlier this year but is not at liberty to reveal the source. Read the article here.

Report: Justifying War with Iran: A False Strategy for Nuclear Nonproliferation
Six nations have been most frequently mentioned in discussions of nuclear non-proliferation in recent years. Four are known to have nuclear weapons and do not allow U.N. inspections of active nuclear weapon sites. Israel’s nuclear stockpile is an open secret. India and Pakistan both have nuclear weapons; they conducted highly publicized nuclear tests in 1998, creating a very tense moment between the rivals. This month, North Korea tested a nuclear device.
