Dragging and dropping doesn't work.
Help!
Thanks!
Dragging the songs from the Library to the Rio's icon in the Source
list works for me. Similarly, opening a new window for the Rio
(dbl-click the Rio's icon next to its name in the Source list) allows
me to drag from the Library or other playlists to the Rio.
You do have to make sure that there is enough free space on the Rio to
accept the material being transferred.

That may have been a mistake. This device is completely plug and play -
I just stuck the USB cord into my computer and it worked. There was no
need to install anything. In fact I was afraid to because the installer
seemed to be threatening to downgrade my version of iTunes. :)

Me too, or (simpler) I can just drag in an entire playlist. m.
PS I think there's been a recent firmware upgrade for this device, so
check on the riomusic site just in case that has anything to do with the
matter. Also there is some kind of installer there as well.
