SADY, Gabriel George
Was born on July 10, 1924 in the family home in Robla, California and died in his Sacramento home on December 21, 2010 after a short, determined and brave battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Beulah in 1999, and earlier his brother Jim and parents Tony and Harriet Sady. He is survived by his four children Nancy, Linda, Gary and Dale; grandchildren Sara (great-grandson Miles) and Kevin Brownell; Erik Munson and Michelle Fernhoff (great-grandson Paul); Kayo Sady and Nikki Olive (great-grandson Aiden and great-granddaughter Sady Marie); and Gabriel and Chelsea Sady. He is also survived by his sister Helen and Jim Psihopedas and her family, and sister-in-law Doris Sady and her family, and numerous cousins and other Sady family members.
Gabe was a loving husband and hardworking dad, a jovial yet strong-willed man of his generation. He was a crusty, irascible, cantankerous guy with formidable physical strength, a funny sense of humor, and an honest sense of the rightness, wrongness, and fairness about the world in which he lived. He was a talented baseball catcher and coach, in 1962 he even hit the longest homerun up to that point out of Folsom Prison ball park as a player in the Nevada-Placer semi-pro league; an avid hunter who cooked the best dutch oven pheasant you ever tasted, a fisherman extraordinaire, and a righteous golfer, playing just six weeks prior to his multiple myeloma diagnosis. He spent many joyous days on the golf course the last few years with his friends in the Fruitridge Branch No. 93 Sons in Retirement, including cousin Gerald, Kenny, Jim, Dale, Dickie and Marvin among the many players too numerous to name with whom he enjoyed the game. Until the last two years, he walked the senior exercise circuit at the Arden Fair Mall at six in the morning nearly every weekday.
Gabe grew up with the large Sady family in Robla where his grandfather settled after emigrating from Syria, via La Cross, Wisconsin, in the mid 1890s. Gabe graduated from Grant High School in 1943 and enlisted in the Navy, training in Farragut, Idaho and San Diego for anti-aircraft guns, and then serving in Hawaii as a morale builder for the troops, playing baseball for the Naval Air Station Kaneohe Klippers, in Kaneohe Bay, Oahu.
He returned to Sacramento in 1945 to work and to play baseball. He drove trucks and worked for his father Tony, eventually working in Beacon gas stations, and driving gasoline trucks for Inland Oil Company and ARCO for 35 years. He met the love of his life, Beulah Mae Goldie, while playing semi-pro baseball in Wenatchee, Washington in 1947. They married in 1948 and she moved to Sacramento where they bought their first and only house and raised their family, and where Gabe lived for 61 years. Gabe was a strong and kind hearted man who loved to travel with his RV trailer to some of the most beautiful places on the west coast, as well as traipsing all over the country to visit his children or with Nancy for her work. They visited Cooperstown, New York for the Baseball Hall of Fame, one of his life long dreams.
He lived, loved, played and laughed, a long and adventurous life. A celebration of Gabe's life will be held on January 22, 2011, at 11:00 am, at St. Mark's Methodist Church, 2391 St. Mark's Way in Sacramento. Family and friends are welcome. Wear your ball or fishing or golf cap to remember and laugh and celebrate the life and times of Gabriel George Sady. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mercy Hospice.

Gary and I had the pleasure of enjoying Gabe's company when he joined us with Nancy at an educational conference. We (Gary and I) talked a lot about how spending time with him really reminded us of my father who passed away in 2000. Gabe was bright, funny as all get-out, and really made our time together very special. As has been said, we can't think of him without smiling.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with all of you.

We will miss seeing Gabe at the River Cats Games. We loved his humor and baseball knowledge. Annette will always cherish the St. Louis Cardinals hat pin that he gave her. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Gabe will be missed.
