Message:   Woman Charged With DUI, Reckless Homicide In Fatal Crash

SOUTH ELGIN, Ill. (STNG) -- An arrest warrant was issued Friday for an 18-year-old St. Charles woman charged with felony DUI and reckless homicide in connection with the death of South Elgin man in a July traffic accident in the northwest suburb.

Erika Scoliere, of 3N935 Emily Dickinson Lane in St. Charles, has been charged with two counts of reckless homicide, a Class 3 felony, and two counts of aggravated DUI, a Class 2 felony, according to a release from South Elgin police.

The Kane County State’s Attorney authorized the charges after Scoliere’s blood alcohol content was found to be .08 percent or more following a July 13th accident which killed Frank Ferraro, 40, of South Elgin, spokesman Chris Nelson said.

Scoliere was not in custody as of Friday afternoon, and Nelson said she may be away at college. He said it was not believed to be a situation in which the subject fled to avoid arrest.

Ferraro was driving a motorcycle northbound on Randall Road near the intersection of Silver Glen Road at about 11:30 p.m. on July 13 when Scoliere, driving southbound in a Ford Escape, attempted to make a left turn onto Silver Glen and the vehicles collided, according to a July release from the Kane County Coroner’s office.

Ferraro was pronounced dead less than an hour later at Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, and an autopsy showed he died of multiple blunt force trauma from the accident, according to the coroner’s office.

Scoliere, the sole occupant of the SUV, was not injured.
