Heirlooms seed varieties are all around us. They are open-pollinated and are often distinguished by a unique appearance, garden performance and fine table quality. Often they have a long history associated with a specific geographic area and come with a story. We’ve marked our heirloom varieties in our 2007 catalog because many of you have expressed an interest. It’s not surprising that our family owned seed company, in business for nearly 60 years, would have a strong offering of heirloom varieties. We think it’s important to recognize that preservation of heirlooms occurs not only because the seeds are saved but because they are grown.
