GOMBAK: We will not give up and continue our investigations into the murder of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, say Selangor police.

"As previously announced, the scene where we found (the body) is the secondary crime scene, and generally, it is harder to find physical evidence there that could lead to the suspect. This is not a straightforward case, but regardless, we have done house-to-house searches, and to date, we have recorded 225 statements from various individuals.

"Of the 248 DNA samples, 246 have been analysed completely, and all other samples that have been sent to the laboratory have not led to positive results that could assist in the investigations at this time.

"We are not giving up, and investigations are ongoing. We believe that we will find the one responsible, even if it is not now," said Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan in a press conference in the Gombak police headquarters on Saturday (Dec 23).

He added that throughout their checks, 12 people had been arrested for various offences, including for narcotics offences.

"We have also asked for assistance from Interpol for their database as there are several pieces of information, although not conclusive, but it might help our investigations with Interpol checking their database," he said.

Comm Hussein said that the missing 29-year-old Muhammad Saharuddin, who had last been seen in his apartment nearby from where Zayn Rayyan had been living, is completely unrelated.

"No connection. That is a missing persons case, and it was his parents who had reported him missing," he said.

Zayn Rayyan, an autistic six-year-old boy, was reported missing on Dec 5 in Damansara Damai.

His body was found in a stream about 200m from his residence at Idaman Apartment the next day.

Police confirmed that a murder investigation had been opened following a post-mortem on the body.
