RANT - What Twitter REALLY is missing Part 7 - Twitter Translator!

Twitter Filter

7 days ago I wrote my first Twitter rant over here.

It’s time for my 7th Twitter rant.  I’m positive you’ll agree that

Condensing a Homeric Epic into Less than 140 characters

is a sure-fire recipe for major writing angst, right?  One of my blog readers, Elizabeth of Table4Five, alerted me to this very serious restriction….and of course, I just had to explore more.

Consider the following!   Let’s say that you have just finished a superlative lunch with your colleagues and discovered the Next Big Killer App and want to share it with this world; how on earth can you twitter this?

"World as we know it will never be the same.  <pause, count characters, resume>.  Set up VC yesterday.  <pause, count characters, resume>.  Hey, wanna come on by and write up proposal for <WAIT!  More than 140 characters!  Must revise! Must revise!  Danger Will Robinson, Danger!>….

Why should I have to contort my brain into mental gymnastics and figure out how to communicate effectively in short grammatical bursts?  Twitter should offer a protocol that automatically takes any selection of text no matter how huge and effortlessly reduces it down into something LESS than 140 characters.

Think how effective that would be!   I could take something like Steve Jobs’ commencement address:

….None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, its likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later…MORE….

Paste that into the Twitter Jive Filter, and be returned:

Smart designs work…MORE….

Would that be heaven or what???

Now, there ARE filters out there that help you craft the perfect sentence like:
